1293.0. "Worcester Centrum Fishing/hunting show" by CPDW::OTA () Wed Jan 03 1990 18:05

The annual Fishing/Hunting Show is coming to the Worcester Centrum on
Jan 31-Feb 4. I talked with Employee Service and they will be posting
the discount coupons sometime this week. The door ticket costs are
$6.00 for Adults and $3.00 for kids. I suspect the employee discount
tickets will probably be a buck off like it was last year.

Last years show was a good way to spend an hour or two. I would say
that there were definitely more fishing exhibits than hunting. They
usually have a couple hundred exhibitors that include: Boats, Canoes,
taxidermy, lodges, fishing expiditions, rods, reels, lures etc. The
only complaint I had about last years is that the big displays like
Browning Rods and Reels, Dawai, Shimano's etc were only displays, if
you found what you liked you had to try and find an exhibitor that had
that specific model which was not easy in some cases. However, I found
    the exhibitors very knowledgable folks.

This year there will be demo's again on fly fishing another trout and
    bass pool.

There were bargains to be found and many of the exhibits like browning
and berkley trilene gave away hats if you bought their stuff from an
    exhibitor there.

It's not the biggest or best of shows, but like I said earlier its a
fun way to spend an hour or two.

Count me in to go to the show, any night is fine with me.

As for the hats: John had 100+ "Terminal Angler" hats made after last year's
show so we could identify the fishing noters wherever we went. They are blue
baseball hats with a patch that looks something like:

So ol' smartass..I mean Coonass is going to be coming waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
up north to visit us forieners huh. Well coonass I thought I'd give
you a few tips on what to bring with you so you have a nice trip.

First bring your Muklucks. Those are the heavy winter boots the
Eskimos use so they don't frreeze thier feet off. Next bring your
heavy down parker with the wolverine fur around the hood so you
don't freeze your face off. Then wear your big ol' cumbersome
gloves so your hands don't freeze off. Of course you will have to
let one of us hold your wallet for you. Because with those heavy
gloves on, you won't be able to reach your money to buy all the
beer, and with those boots on you won't be able to chase us when
we drink all your money, and with that parker you will probably
get locked up or end up on Piedmont street where some nice lady
will offer to show you around for fifty bucks!

Any way it will be good to meet you. Any idea where or when everyone
    is going to meet.

                                Walt

Where is the place that y'all are going to after the show ? Is
it walking distance from the Centrum ? Some other places that are
close are: The FireHouse (probably too many good looking ladies
there, though), Margaritaville (next door to the FireHouse) and
    Maxwell Silverman's "Toolhouse". There's a bum bar called "Moynagh's"
(I think) behind the FireHouse too. It don't matter - color me there!

At the moment, it looks like I won't be able to make the annual BASS ALE
BASH after the Centrum. I am planning to go during the day on Thursday but
will probably leave around 4 PM or so. I'm planning on taking Friday off to
head up north to fish the weekend at the annual Winin Ice Derby (meaning I'm
gone the whole weekend). Staying out late on Thursday nite too is pushing
my luck with the wife, especially considering that I'd like to join a bass
club this year AND go to Pickwick Lake (Alabama) in April for a week!

Sooo...if any of you guys are there early, I'll see you. Otherwise, don't

It's possible that I'll escape the wrath of Khan for the evening. Great, so
we'll be meeting at 7 pm, WHERE? (I've been to the Centrum often enough,
just never to the expo.)

go to her jazz-dance class. I know I'll meet Coonass one of these days. :-)

Like y'all, I enjoyed putting names/faces together too. I thought
DonMac would be some serious old dude... Coonass was BETTER than I had
hoped - what a composite of intellect/"good ole boy".
Didn't get to talk to everyone I wanted to (probably could have, if I
shut up more). Enjoyed hearing Bassin' whatever grumbling about Jerry
McInnis lack of factual info - perhaps that is a recurrent theme... I
think I saw R/O Palmer, but the sighting was unconfirmed, since he is
apparently mute. Great to talk with Gary the Mat Man, Gitzit' ("how the
walleyes bitin'?"), and The Molesta (don't worry Les, the kid's parents
said she'll never testify...). Spent some time with HSJ discussing the
merits of Bagley's line and learned some great stuff from him (old
people didn't get old bein' no fool...), and really enjoyed TBDW (it's
o.k., Gary, Juan Corozon is really the only "back deck drunk).
This file has some serious fishin' talent, and even though I'm not
serious, I sure enjoy the chance to listen, learn and pound down them
    ole longnecks...

Ahyup...it was fun, as usual. Great to see old friends and meet new ones.
Like most everyone said, it's good to put some faces with the names. Except
for the Skoal Bandit...he was better off remaining faceless! (call me old,
huh! Gotchya!)

It also looks like I lost my title for tall fish tales. WHo said they were
catching 250 walleyes an hour??

It really looked like TBDW was once again pulling his famous WIMP-OUT act,
but he finally made an appearance. Loved them BASS ALES, Gary!

I also find that our annual Centrum get-to-gether starts the countdown to...

OPEN WATER!!!

I'm usually on the Merrimack within 5-7 weeks after the show and it's gotta
be the L-O-N-G-E-S-T 5-7 weeks of the year!

Yup, looking forward to meeting you guys on the water in some head-to-head
competion or just for the fun of it. I don't care. Just as long as the
water is soft and wet....not hard and cold!

Maybe better than ever! Always a pleasure to meet new faces to place
with old usernames and doubly a pleasure to remeet with old friends.

For those interested, although I was told that T's lures were not
available locally (in Mass), I have found them in my local tackle shop
(now Knoxville, Tn) (no beanie weenies though). I have also found a
few Tennessee produced lures that may not be distributed nationally.
As soon as I find out whether any of them are any good, I will send a
couple up to TBDW ( who you may remember lost boxes full of
irreplaceable stuff a while back ) for local distribution at the next
    Monomonac tourney ;-).

Maybe this year you can get it right?!?! Half a beer per person is not what
I call "get them to stock the BASS ALE."

What they had last year didn't even make it around for the first round!

I'd hate to see how you "stock" a pond...(water...no fish)

or build a "stock" car...(car...no wheels)

or buy DEC "stock"...(gimme half a share please)

SO take the hint...STOCK up or we'll STOCK it to ya!

Has anyone been to the Worcester show this week and seen the 'canoe'
lady. She is just as you walk in the place. Maybe 3-4 booths down the
hall. Handing out flyers for a handcrafted canoe. She had more guys
interested in the canoe, who never had a single thought about one until
    they got there.
I was there the minute it opened.
On the show, the same as in past years. Very good, all the producers
