467.0. "ANY FALL BASSIN' TIPS?" by MOSAIC::BEAUDREAU () Thu Sep 03 1987 13:35

Any tips on fall bass fishing ? With to cooler weather coming
in, I was wondering what change of habits ol' Mr. BASS will have.
Most of my fishin' is on a medium size lake with depths up to about
25 feet this time of year.

I went out last night on Bear Hill pond in Harvard, Ma. The
bassin' seems to be picking up. There were 3 of us and we took
home 6 nice bass, up to 2 1/2 pounds. Made for a nice fish fry,
with corn on the cob and fresh green beans. All fish were
caught on rubber worms, casting towards the shore. We were
using three different colors, everything was working. Look
for partially submurged bolders, a couple feet below the surface,
this is where they were holding.

                                             Tight lines

    SLOW .... SLOW.... SLOW

When the bass satrt to move to fall parterns fish the deep eadges
just off the shallow water. The fish will take slow small baits
that they don't have to work to hard for.

If you use rubber skirted jigs and cut them down, start to leave
them a little longer. The longer rubber will look bigger but move
or wave slower in the water. (breath in the water is the words).

Thin the jig out insted of cutting it back.

    Good Luck

I find that you can still retieve pretty fast as long as the water
temp. is above the mid 50's. They'll still come up and grab spinner
baits or any other fast moving lure.

GOTTA AGREE WITH ALL HERE. I PREFER TOP WATER IN THE FALL AND SPRING.
CAST INTO THE SHORE AND LOOK FOR GOOD "STRUCTURE". AS SAID, LEDGES
WITH SHALLOW WATER LEADING TO DEEP WATER CARE SERIOUS SPOTS. I LIKE
JIGS, HEDDON POPPERS, SPOOKS, AND BEER IN THESE SITUATIONS. THIS
IS THE TIME OF YEAR TO TRY TO "UPSET" MR BASS IF THAT IS YOUR STYLE.
ON THE OTHER HAND IS THIS DOES NOT WORK, YOU MAY HAVE A POPULATION
OF "LAZY BASS" ON YOU HANDS. IF SO FOLLOW BASSIN BOBS ADVICE.
