465.0. "NEW STATE RECORD" by COLORS::BEAUDREAU () Tue Sep 01 1987 13:53

A new Rhode Island state record was caught recently in Pascoag
Reservoir....... a 2 lb. 1 oz. BLUEGILL measuring 12 inches in
length with a 13 in. girth.

This catch bettered the old record of 1 lb. 3 oz. The world
record bluegill as listed in the National Freshwater Fishing Hall
of Fame weighs 4 lbs. 12 oz. which had a length of 15 in. with
a girth of 18 1/2 inches. (caught by T.S. Hudson out of Kenton
Lake in Alabama on April 9, 1950).

Cris Rizzo a local resident landed the prize bluegill in a 4 ft
ultralight with 4# test. I know this isn't that impressive for
all you Bass-aholics, but any fresh water state record is always
    worth sharing with fellow fisherman.

Another local recent catch worth mentioning was an 8 lb. 3 oz.
largemouth measuring 24 1/2 inches in length with an 18 in. girth
taken from Lakafish Lake in Northern RI by Lance Grassi of Woonsocket.
Lance said he recently released a couple of 7 pounders so they could
reach bigger proportions in HIS honeyhole.

Recent reports from down hear indicate that BASSIN' is pickup after
    the recent cold spell.

    Good luck guys

Gee, I thought a note on a record setting Bluegill would get some
reaction from you kivver catchin' basser's flamming each other in
    note 424.

I guess I'll have too wait till after you guys get emBarrASSed when
you get shut-out on Sept 19, and then get back to reality.

I'd like to use that kiver for MUSKIE bait this winter.

Does anyone know what the Vt, Nh, or Me state records are??
I'd be interesting to compare... Some of the Mass freshwater records
appear as though they may be larger than our's here in Vt; I think
the Brown, Brookie, and Pike records are larger????
