323.0. "Good luck George." by KRAPPA::KEYWORTH () Thu Dec 29 1988 13:29

    Has anyone heard how Mr. Bush is doing on Quail (other than Dan)
    in Texas? I thought I heard something about bad weather. It will
    seem good to have a president in the White House that Hunts and
    Fishes.

    Happy New Year

323.1Hit the deck!!!GENRAL::BOURBEAUThu Dec 29 1988 13:546
    	Kind of makes me wonder how he can hunt with all those secret
    service people around him. Do they all hit the ground when a quail
    goes up?? :^)

    Yah, but did you hear his answer to the question of how he could
    possibly kill *animals*? He said that he was shooting wild birds
    which are not animals. (?) And then went on to say, it wasn't as
    if he were shooting deer or something. Someone better send him
    the arguments for the antis so that he can come up with a better
    answer next time. I give him credit for saying that the birds
    wouldn't suffer because he is a good shot. :-)

    Granted, he did botch up that interview to some extent. However,
    it wasn't a practiced speach and it must be hard to answer questions
    when you know it will be twisted 30 different ways by the time it
    got to press (especially on a topic such as this). I saw the
    interview on TV and he did mention something about how our fore-
    fathers were hunters to put meat on the table, etc. The sentence
    I heard about deer was not "It's not like I was shooting a deer",
    it was "I like bird hunting but I don't know if I could shoot a
    deer".

    Too bad he didn't take the time to elaborate on his answer. It
    would have been a great opportunity to blast some antis from the
    top!

    Not that it would have done any good.

    saw a picture of george in yesterdays atlanta paper. said it was
    from his hunt on tuesday and he bagged several birds. pic shows
    hin carrying what looks like a sxs double in his left hand with
    the muzzle at about a 45 degree angle above the horizontal, being
    held by the wrist of the stock and finger definately outside of
    the trigger guard. showing good safe gun handling.

    surprised the press didnt try to get a pic of him with the finger
    on the trigger....

323.6Continental License?SALEM::MACGREGORI'm the NRA/GONHMon Feb 13 1989 19:048
    A friend of mine used to drive for Reagan and Bush (he is in the
    Army) and now sets up communication wherever Bush goes. I guess
    he must be a lifer. Anyways he tells me that George Bush always
    comes up to him and asks him to go hunting with him, which he does.
    I think I heard Sal mention that he does deer hunt. I think he does
    most of his hunting in Texas. Must get a special license for the
    big guy.
