| Try Doug Russell marine on route 20 in Worchester. Haven't been out
there for years, but you you might get lucky. He used to be a Chrysler
dealer, maybe still has some parts.
Good luck

Bayliner bought out Chrsyler a few years ago and cahnged the name to
FORCE outboards. They are still alive and well and in Business. THe
difference between a Force and a Chrysler is essentially the colr of
the paint.
If you are in dire straites, a Force Dealer that I am aware of is the
one I used to get my parts from- The Boat House in Warren, R.I.
(401)-245-5538- he may be able to tell you the name of a dealer near
you.

Note 923.0 Bearings for outboard No replies

HI,
I am wondering if anyone knows of a
place where I can get bearings for
my 1970 Crystler 85 H.P. outboard's
outdrive ? I bought the boat with
the motor supposibly seized. It turns
out the person drained all the gear oil
out of it and now the bearings have rusted.
I would appreciate it if someone could
tell me where I could buy these (All of
them) and if you have a clue as
to how much they would cost.
Thanks,
Mark.

Most bearings are pretty standard. Get the old bearings out and
look up "bearings" in your yellow pages- you can usually get seals
through these folks, also- and at less than 1/2 of what you would pay
at your local , friendly, Chrysler dealer.
You can also get bearings through most auto parts store. If they don't
have them , they will get them from the bearing supply house mentioned
previously and mark them up for you.
Chrysler is now Force outboards. You will eventually need parts
that are only available from the factory. The only Chrysler dealer I am
aware of is the BOAT HOUSE in Warren, R.I. Check your yellow pages for
FORCE outboard dealers near you.
THE BOAT HOUSE also had lots of "junkers"- and those Chrsler lower
units from 70-115 HP were pretty much the same-a good used lower unit
may be the way to go.

| If you need parts for your Chrysler that you can only get from dealer
try the BOAT HOUSE in Warren, R.I..
When I needed starter parts for a small Chrysler kicker that I have,
they sent the parts to me in the mail. Because I live in central Mass
that saved me a lot of time.

| If your going into the lower unit make sure you know what you're doing.
I spent $500 for parts to rebuild my 115 mercury and when it was all
backtogether I discovered a crack in the housing. I was really worn
inside and I only got about 20 hours before it died again. Went for a
used unit then.
Fortunely, I had hid a rock which took a blade off the prop and I was
able to claim the damage on my insurance.

Thanks alot for the info.
I called them and they have
a few of them for around $150.00
I think that's what I'll do.
It's well worth it. It'll save
me alot a labor and cursing.
Thanks,
Mark.

Note 1048.0 WEST BEND motor part wanted No replies

Hi sailors/fishermen,this notes mainly apply to Canadians, Ontarians.
I have an old 12HP WEST BEND motor that runs fairly good but unfortunately
parts are getting rare. The motor has been in the family for quite some time
and it has some sentimental value.
Would anybody know where I could get part for my engine. I would be willing
to buy old motor for parts even if the motor is blown.
Thank you

850.10 | Stalling Chrysler OB | AD::GAETZ | | Mon Jun 21 1993 21:04 | 24 |
| Back again with a new problem....
The motor is a ~1970 (I was told by Charlie Whitney last year)
85 hp Chrysler OB. The problem is that the motor will start fine and
run well until you try and throttle it up. The more throttle the more
it skips untill it dies. I pulled the plugs and they were wet with
fuel. The motor won't restart unless they are dried. The points, wires
and plugs are relatively new (less than 25 hrs). I checked the point
gap and timing. Both right on. I also checked to see if it was getting
a good spark to the plugs. That was OK. One thing that was happening
prior to this was the motor would idle fine but once in a while it would
skip/backfire and the motor would stop. I thought it was the points but
they were right on. I have a feeling it's with the mysterious 'CD' box
that connects the points to the coil. The service manual states you need
special test equipment to test it. I haven't put a timing light on it yet
to see if its getting eratic spark when it starts to sputter (the manual
show how to set the timing with a test light that's how I set the timing).
Someone said it might be the coil or 'CD' unit ??? Any clues before buying
a new 'CD' unit and or coil and hope it's the problem ??? Any other
trouble shooting ideas ???
Thanks,
Mark

| Check to see if your spark advance is working. Second use the timing
light to check the firing of each plug, you said they fired fine, but
if you checked them by spinning the motor over with the plugs removed
and grounded they may not fire under compression. Third but not that
remote check that the reeds are okay, if the spring tension is gone the
reeds "float" and allow fuel to flow continuosly. The CD unit is still
a possibility. Good luck.

| I still haven't had a chance to get up to NH to try the timing
light on it, but I did have the CD unit & coil checked out at
Charlie W. and he said both were fine, had a great spark. He thinks it
might be the carbs are out of adjustment and flooding it out. Let you
know what I find out with the timing light.
RE-1. How can you tell if the reeds are bad ? Will it be that obvious
to tell or are they cheap enough that they should be change since the
motor is so old ?
Thanks for the suggestions,
Will let you know what I come up with.
