| Linlithgow Rose have started there defence of the East Region League
Cup with there usual style. They lost 5-2 to Armadale Thistle and
could only draw with Blackburn United, guess they won,t be doing
much more this year. There is hope that once they get there full
squad together there will be improvement in time for the Scottish
Cup campaign. They,ve been busy on the transfer market with 8 new
players arriving some of which show promise so a good season could be
on the cards. Heres hoping anyway....

Tomorrow Linlithgow Rose take on Bonnybrig Rose at Prestonfield in a
league match . Linlithgow were unlucky only coming away with a draw
last saturday against Fauldhouse as they had most of the play, They
should have a good game tomorrow and I would expect them to stay
unbeaten and move to the top of the league. The league leaders are
Newtongrange but they play in the Skol cup tomorrow.

I beg to differ Gordon. I felt that Fauldhouse were the better team
last week & that Linlithgow were more than fortunate to escape with a
point.
Anyway,on to more important matters. Fauldhouse have a home draw in the
Semi-final stages of the the Skol league cup against the winners of the
Armadale Thistle v Edinburgh United tie(result as yet unknown).
None of these two teams should frighten the Faw-dee-da at home,so it
looks like we're in with a shout of a trophy already this season.

Well you,ll be playing Edinburgh then as they won 2-1 on sat against
Armadale, Edinburgh seem to play well in this comp , they made the
finals last season but lost to the Rose.
Linlithgow won 2-1 against Bonnybrig today coming from behind as what
appears to be normal for them this season. The Fauldhouse game was off
due to the weather.

| This weekend is the last chance for the junior teams involved in the
Scottish cup 1st round to get there act together, there should be a
couple of good games to go watch ,namely Bo'ness'es journey to
Newtongrange . Bo'ness believe they have sorted out their recent
problems and reckon they'll win . I reckon they are dreaming. Camelon
are at home to Linlithgow , Camelon have had a good start to the season
but are full of **** so they should take a hammering.. Don't know what
the rest are doing but who cares anyway.
Bathgate are playing Auchinleck next week but even although they are
playing well and Auchinleck arn't I don't think they can win.
Fauldhouse play Lochee next week but they shouldn't have any problems
reaching the next round.
Linlithgow on the other hand should wipe the floor with Fochaber who
will no doubt be full of cambells soup seeing thats all they make up
there , I'll take a wee trip up there to watch it anyway.
Can't remember if Newtongrange or Bo'ness play next week or not.

| So the Junior cup kicks of next Saturday.......no doubt there will be
the usual first round shocks. There are still lots of teams not playing
due to getting byes.
I have obtained some prices for the cup from bookmakers P.B.Barrett of
Edinburgh, listed below are the teams he gave me so if your team is not
listed then give them a call.
Auchinleck Talbot 9/1Fav
Arthurlie 12/1
Pollok 12/1
Newtongrange Star 16/1
Cumnock 25/1
Linlithgow Rose 25/1
Irvine Meadow 25/1
Kilbirnie 25/1
Beith 25/1
Bo'ness Utd. 28/1
Petershill 28/1
Glenafton 28/1
Hill o'Beath 28/1
Tayport 33/1
Kilwinning Rangers 33/1
Bathgate 33/1
You can have 200/1 on Pumpherston and its reckoned Glenaftons price
will come down as someone has placed a 500 pound bet on them.
Auchinleck are Favourites only because they won it last year because at
the moment they are playing the worste I have seen them in 12 years.
If they play as they have done in the last month then they could be out
at the first hurdle this time as Bathgate seem quite useful. Then again
a good victory could put them back on the rails again. The Auchinleck
manager was at the Bathgate game on Saturday to size them up so they
are taking nothing for granted.
Good luck to all your local teams and please support them.

| Some great ties again in round two of the Scottish cup. The best of all
must be Lesmahagow at home to Auchinleck. The Gow have had very good
runs in the cup in recent years and have the advantage of the home tie.
I would expect Auchinleck to go through in a very low scoring game. It
will also be interesting to see how much of a crowd attends this match.
Another good tie is Hill o'Beath (winners two years ago) at home to
Newtongrange Star, last years beaten finalists. This Saturday will see
the tie between Fauldhouse and Lochee Harp come to a conclusion as
extra time and penalties will decide the tie if neccessary. I remember
Lochee Harp in 1979 when they beat the then holders Cumnock 5-0 in the
first round at Cumnock. I don't think Fawdee will slip up this time.

the Scottish cup in two weeks time . Bo'ness are away to Kelty Hearts
and Linlthgow are at home to Crossgate Primrose. Next week Linlthgow
are susposed to play Newtongrange in a league match which Linlithgow
would have to win to have any chance in the league, but with
Newtongrange only manageing a 0-0 draw with Camelon in the Fife &
Lothians the replay could be next week. Whitburn also won 3-1 against
Clackmanan in the F & L.

| Cumnock Juniors have lost there manager (resigned) and Alan Rough is
red favourite for the job. I hope he dose,nt get it cos I quite like
him. Roughy played for our team (SQF) against the Auchinleck supporters
team in a benefit game for one of the Auchinleck players who broke a
leg. Big Derek Grant (stores) and Meadowbank also guested for us. We
won 4-0 of-course and had a great day.
Lesmahagow V Auchinleck in the Scottish was a cracker. These two teams
top there area leagues and it was billed as tie of the round.
The Gow scored in two minutes and there fans were already talking about
winning the Scottish. Fifteen minutes on the clock and it was all
square. Auchinleck then put a lot of pressure on the Gow defence and at
half time led 3-1.
The Gow pulled the score back to 3-2 but the Talbot scored a decisive
double to kill the tie, Lesmahagow scored a late consolation and the
game finished 5-3 in Auchinlecks favour.
This was a great performance by the Talbot and are now playing as good
as ever.
The draw for the third round is on Sunday at Dundee.

game between Linlithgow and Rob Roy. Linlithgow have got Mc Cullock
from Airdrie farmed out to them as they have a problem with there
goalkeepers, 1 injured the other works for the fire brigade. They had a
good win last sat against Tranent 4 - 0 so that will set them up nicely
for this saturday. Bo'ness have a full squad to pick from for the visit

best record in the Scottish cup having reached the final 15 times
winning 5 times.

| Although the Scottish cup draw was at Auchinleck, there were no favours
for the champions. Another away tie, this time to Fauldhouse who have
had good runs in the cup in recent years. This will be a very difficult
game for the Champs.
Another cracking tie is Linlithgow at home to strongly fancied
Arthurlie. Lithgy have'nt been too consistent this season and the
Barrhead team will fancy there chances after going out at the
semi-final stage last year.
Hill o,Beath are coming good again having re-signed most of there cup
winning team.
There were a couple of controversial games in the last round of the
cup. Dundee N.E. had four players sent off and six booked in there home
tie with Auchinleck. This was North Ends first home defeat in the cup
in six years.
There was also an incident at Linlithgow when one of the Kirkintiloch
players seemingly assaulted the ref and was charged. Could some of our
Lithgy fans please let us know just what happened?.

| About the Rob Roy game, Linlithgow went 2-0 up with about 10 minutes to
go, up until then it had been a really good game with both sides
playing good footbal and no bad tackles. Then after linlithgow scored
the second one of the rob roy defenders knocked down a rose player who
had just come on, the ref didn't see it but the linesman did and
brought it to the attention of the ref. The player involved was called
over and sent off after a lecture. The robroy players protested one too
strongly and was sent off, as soon as the red card was produced he
kicked the ref in the nuts, he was ushered off the park by his own
players , on the way taking a swipe at the linesman who had not been
involved at all. Apparently he also went for one of the rob roy
official's as well. He has been put on the transfer list.
This incident spoiled a really good game and rob roy,s chances
of saveing the tie.

| One of these poorer teams from the A league has just put paid to the
league for you this season. A 3 - 1 defeat by Armadale on Sat was by no
means good preparation for an important cup tie. Also these poorer
teams have just about knocked Fauldhouse out of all the cup
competitions so far this season. Now I'll agree that the Linlithgow is
not very good this season (or the past couple of seasons) but that is
no excuse for you to say that Fauldhouse don't try beat them when they
meet on league or cup duty.
I don't know who the Fauldhouse players will kick to bits now as Sinnet
has joined either Bonnyrigg or Bonnybridge as the manager, I also
expect that Bonner will probably join him there now that he is on the
transfer list.
Basically I don't think they'll make the next round , they'll go out
Saturday.

Gordon,
You obviously didn't even bother to take the time to actually read the
contents of my previous note, before you started waffling on !!
I stated that Fauldhouse were always capable of losing to other lesser
teams from our region, not down to the fact that they were'nt trying,
but more down to the fact that they are an ordinary side. However, they
always somehow manage to keep their best form for ties in the Scottish
Junior Cup.
I never made any suggestions that Fauldhouse didn't try to beat teams
from their own league on cup or league duty !!
The reason I think they'll win on Saturday, and the only reason, is
because of thier fine cup tradition.
We've been unlucky against finer opposition in recent years, and I feel
that luck must change sometime.
We lost to Talbot about 12 years ago in a 2nd replay, the same to
Bo'ness about 7 years ago, and then to Lesmahagow a couple of years
back. And to be honest, we should have had all those ties sewn up in
the 1st matches !!!!
So again, the tight park.......the big crowd, and that marvellous cup
run at home in recent years, may just help ease us a step closer to our
1st Junior Cup final win since 1946.
P.S. Eh......2-0 to Fauldhouse last night I believe wasn't it ???

The Rob Roy player sent of against Linlithgow in the Scottish cup tie
has been fined 200 quid and banned for 10 yrs. As he is 28, he won't
play much football again. He has still to appear at Linlithgow
sheriff court on criminal assault charges. If he pays the fine he
may be able to appeal against the ban in 2 or 3 years time. I don't
think anyone will sign him. But he could be coaching youths in 10
years time. An offence of this sort, especially against a referee
should be a 'sine die' in my opinion.

| Its nice to see a bit o banter in the Conference.First of all I am a
bit suspicious re Glenaftons successful appeal in the Scottish. We seem
to get this sort of thing every year. When clubs register players the
SFA should send back a copy of the registration to the clubs involved,
this way it would be easy for the club to check for any mistakes. If
later on a club was found not to have registered a player then the
club should be thrown out of the competition.
To Saturday's Scottish ties, Lithgy V Arthurlie...both teams struggling
a bit to find some consistency however I think the Barrhead troops will
go through after a replay.
Fauldhouse V Auchinleck T.... Talbot have had no favours in the draw
this season and have faced some so called hard ties. Firstly we had to
deal with Bathgate who were on a run of twenty games undefeated, Result
7-0. Then we had to travel to Lesmahagow who still top the premier
league. The press said we could not survive this trip and lo and behold
we won 5-3 and it was really easier than the score line suggests.
Next it was off to Dundee to do battle with a team unbeaten at home in
the Scottish since 1986, Show Talbot a record to smash and they will
oblige, result 5-1. And so to Fauldhouse who have the record of not
losing at home in the Scottish for a year (Glenafton beat them last
season) The game should be fairly tight until late on as this is when
the Talbot turn the screw, result Fauldhouse 0 Auchinleck 4.

OVD Scottish Junior Cup 4th Round
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Fauldhouse United.........0 Auchinleck Talbot.........0
Fauldhouse were robbed of a place in the 5th round of the Scottish,
thanks to an excellent performance from Talbot's keeper, and poor
finishing from the United forward line.
The expression on the faces of the United players as they left the
field, said it all. They had totally outplayed,out-fought & out
maneuvered Talbot for the full 90 minutes, only to see their efforts
result in zilch.
I somehow don't think that the Ayrshire team will allow Fauldhouse to
over-run them at home in the replay, the way they did at Park View.
A crowd of around 900 turned up on a very cold & miserable day.
They weren't exactly subjected to a marvellous game of football, but I
feel the majority of them left after 90 minutes wondering how Talbot
were still in this years tournament.
Most of the football played came in the 2nd half, after a basically
ordinary 1st half in which both teams had their chances, but none of
them really clear cut.
In the 2nd however, the game turned around as Fauldhouse laid siege on
the Talbot goal.
Their keeper pulled of a great one-handed save from Van Nuill, parrying
the ball around the post for a corner.
Allen should have done better than thump the ball off a defenders leg
from 12 yards, with the keeper on the deck.
And then, with the referee looking at his watch & about to blow for
full time, a Butler corner was headed towards goal by Dougan, only for
him to watch in disbelief as his own team mate stopped the ball from
crossing the line.
As I said at the beginning, I don't think the Talbot players will be
quite so generous in the replay, and I therefor predict a 3-0 win for
the Ayrshire side.
Here's hoping I'm wrong,Jimpy (ya jammy booga)

83.45 | ROBBED?"VERSION 2" | PAKORA::JROWAN | Ya Flee Bitten Varmint | Thu Feb 06 1992 20:44 | 14 |
| This is the Auchinleck version of events last Saturday.
Over the ninety minutes Fauldhouse were the slightly better team. It
was never a classic and the game was continually stopped for petty
fouls. As far as Auchinleck were concerned they were denied a penalty
mid-way through the second half for a deliberate hand ball, everyone,
even the Fauldhouse fans next to me saw it but the Referee ignored the
pleas. Talbot almost stole the tie in injury time when a header by Tam
McDonald scraped past the post. The Talbot team never got started and I
am sure they were delighted with the result.
Its all to play for on Saturday and Auchinleck must fancy there chances
at home so, I will again predict a 4-0 win for the Talbot.
Would someone please give us a report on the Lithgy game as once again
it seems to have been a controversial match.

83.46 | THE BIG REPLAY (LAST 16) | KIRKTN::JROWAN | Ya Flee Bitten Varmint | Sun Feb 09 1992 18:20 | 27 |
| Another very hard tie and with a gale blowing it was obvious the team
playing with the wind were going to dominate.
Auchinleck won the toss and played with the wind in the first half.
Fauldhouse settled down to defend and play the off-side trap very
often. A few times the off-side decisons were a bit dodgy and it seemed
obvious that a mistake by the Fauldhouse defence had to come.
In thirty minutes the defence were caught out trying to play off-side
when Auchinlecks Paterson lobbed the out rushing players, ran toward
goal, rounded the keeper and scored from a narrow angle.
In the second half it was Auchinlecks turn to defend as the kick outs
never even reached the half way line. The Auchinleck keeper was never
tested until fifteen minutes to go when he tipped a rocket shot over
the bar and a minute later had another good save from a volley from the
edge of the box. At that I think Faulhouse knew there chance had gone
and Auchinleck had two quick breaks and should have killed the tie.
Faulhouse had there number 7 sent off in the dying minutes for his
second bad foul.
Last weeks offical attendance at Fauldhouse was 1800 and Saturday's
game had 2,900.
Glenafton won there controversial tie against Vale of Clyde 1-0 after
extra time. I hear that Clyde are taking legal advice re the
registration incident so, maybe this tie is still not settled.
Other results affecting Ayrshire clubs were...
Dunipace...0 Largs Thistle...1 and Johnstone Burgh...1 Beith...1
The draw for the Fifth round is in Glasgow on Wednesday next.

I didn't manage to the lithgy game but I heard a few versions of how
the game against Athurlie went. Basically they were done over by the
ref ( from fife ).It was only his second cup match and he was
intimidated by Autherlie's centre half ( cairney I think his name was)
. The first half was fairly even with the Rose just edgeing it towards
the end of the half .The second half saw the Rose take control and
deservedly take the lead through Todd. Within a couple of minutes of
the goal the Ref decided that Hoggan had headbutted an Autherlie player
and was sent off. Nobody on the pitch and off it had seen any
infringment this included the Autherlie players so the ref was not
flavour of the month. 1 minute later Autherlie drew level and five
minutes later sealed it. There first goal came before the Rose could
settle after the sending off.
With 15 minutes to go Mc Gonnigle was clean through but was brought
down from the rear by cairney ( nothing ) two minutes later Todd was
taken out of the play by cairney in the six yard box( nothing ) The ref
was totally out of it as far as cairney was concerned , both those
tackles deserved a sending off. The Rose continued to press until the
end but couldn't convert the second goal.
I heard the ref had a * TALK * with a couple of the Rose susporters
after the game . I don't think he was to happy about what they had to
say to him.
An appeal about Hoggan's sending off may be sent in to the SJFA a
meeting was held last week I've not heard the outcome yet. The ordering
off was Hoggan's first ever and he's no youngster having played as a
senior and in Germany.

83.49 | Have we no home to go to? | KIRKTN::JROWAN | Ya Flee Bitten Varmint | Sun Feb 16 1992 00:38 | 23 |
| Glenafton beat Larkhall 2-1 to-day to move into the last sixteen and
they are now at home to Stonyburn who beat Dunbar 3-2 in there 2nd
replay. It would seem the Glens are a nap to go into the Quarter
finals, however they still have not played any of the top teams yet.
Lucky Auchinleck are away for the fourth time in a row and again its
tricky opposition in the form of Armadale. As you may know Armadale
made the headlines for all the wrong reasons re there fans rioting at
Ballieston. Now, I have a world exclusive, the Auchinleck manager has
told me that the police are requesting the game be played a week early,
I think that's the 1st March. This is to allow them to concentrate on
this game which could get out of hand. The Auchinleck fans behaviour is
the best in Junior football however, the Armadale troops who caused the
trouble at Ballieston will be out-numbered if they try the same again.
I also have info from a good source that any trouble from the Armadale
fans and the SJFA will through the club out of the Scottish. Lets hope
its a good game and I will accept a draw just now and finish the tie at
Auchinleck.
Arthurlie also have a very hard tie away to Tayport who knocked Cumnock
out a couple of rounds ago.
Hill o'Beath are the new favourites at 4/1 (I think this is justified)
with Auchinleck at 5/1 and Arthurlie at 6/1.
Lets see if my world exclusive comes true and by the way are there any
Dale fans out there? surely someone comes from there.

| The official gate at the Armadale V Auchinleck game was 3300.
The fans watched an excellent display by the holders who were back to
something like there best form.
I thought some of the Armadale players "froze" as they seemed to be
running around like headless chickens.
Armadale kicked of with a fairly strong wind at there backs but they
never really got near the Talbot penalty box.
talbot went close on a couple of occasions and finally broke the
deadlock scoring with a header in twenty minutes.
It was one way traffic now and with half time approaching Talbot scored
with another header. half time : Armadale 0 Auchinleck 2.
fifteen minutes into the second half and it was all over, after
constant Talbot pressure and the dale failing to clear the ball it was
stroked home to make it three - nil.
Armadale at last woke up and for ten minutes or so put Talbot under
pressure for the first time in the match. The dale won a couple of
corners and scored with a peach of a header. The fight back lasted
another five minutes or so and once again Auchinleck took over. Talbot
should have scored another couple but the game was over anyway.
So Talbot are the first team into the last eight, the rest of the ties
are on saturday.

83.53 | its worth a pound | KIRKTN::JROWAN | Ya Flee Bitten Varmint | Fri Mar 06 1992 09:02 | 25 |
| With one Ayrshire team already in the last eight I would expect to see
another two join Auchinleck.
Glenafton at home to Stonyburn looks a nap even although the glens were
beaten by bottom of the league Largs at home last week, the Glens will
be too experienced for the West Lothian team.
Beith are away to Glasgow Perthshire and having been at there park
myself it will be difficult for the Ayrshire team however I expect
Beith will at the very least get a draw. The Perthshires park is the
smallest I have seen in Junior football and I can assure you I have
been at plenty grounds. From the shy line to the eighteen yard line is
only six feet and from the edge of the centre circle to the eighteen
yard line is only about twelve feet, it really is a disgrace.
The other Ayrshire team, Maybole, are away to Vale of Leven. Maybole
are in the second division and have never been this far in the Scottish
before. It will be a major upset if they win or even draw at the Vale.
Hill o'Beath (favourites) should take goals off Arbroath and Arthurlie
away to Tayport is a very tricky tie for the Barrhead team, I think
they will be happy with a draw.
At the Armadale game last week Auchinlecks centre half Sam McCulloch
suffered a facial injury after just fifteen minutes, he finished the
game but had to go to hospital afterwards. It was discovered he had a
fractured cheek bone and a broken nose.
If you have a team in the Scottish go and support them, you will enjoy
the day out. What the Juniors lack in skill they make up for in effort,
its certainly worth a pound.

will get gubbed.

| The quarter final draw is on Scotsport this Sunday. Hill o'Beath and
Auchinleck are the only teams through so far, all the other ties were
draws or were cancelled. Will the Talbot get a home tie this time?
I would like a home tie v Hill o' Beath and get them out of the way
just now. Glenafton? well if they do happen to beat Stonyburn then they
will go out at the next stage, I hope Stonyburn beat them as Vale of
Clyde already put them out but were forced to replay because of a
protest on a technicality. I think it would be appropriate if Stonyburn
went through and were drawn against the Talbot as we have now put out
three teams within walking distance of each other ie Bathgate,
Fauldhouse and Armadale. Good luck John.

The draw will be held at Arthurlie , happily they won't be in it as
they were beaten 3 - 0 at home and have no more interest in the cup for
this year. Stonyburn also went out 1 - 2 to Glenafton. I've just read a
bit in the pink saying Auchinleck are the only team capable of staying
the pace in the Second division, well I disagree with that as there are
still some good teams playing in the Juniors that would do well against
the likes of Stenhousemuir, Berwick, Queen of the south etc..
As for not being able to afford it I reckon
there must be at least half a dozen teams with very good bank balances.

| RE 56,
There are a few Junior clubs who could hold there own in the second
division, but would they want into it?.
Teams like Auchinleck (average gate at league games 900) Linlithgow,
Pollok, Bo'ness etc who have had a fair amount of success in the Junior
ranks would consider it a step backwards going into the second
division. First of all they would have to raise a lot more cash for
travelling etc, upgrade there grounds in line with the Taylor report
and finally they would be lost forever in the staleness of the second
division ie they would hardly ever win any honours and the fans would
eventually get fed up with the meaningless games.
At the moment there is an outcry at the standard of Junior football but
in my opinion it is the senior clubs to blame. It was a regular
occurence to hear of an 18 year old playing with a junior club being
snapped up by a senior team after some great performances. Nowadays the
senior clubs have youth teams of there own thus denying the youngsters
to the juniors to get toughened up. Personally I think Young players
signed by senior clubs should be farmed out to there own local Junior
team for a year or two and learn the basics of how to fend for
themselves on the park.
Back to the point of playing in the second division, the Scottish tie
at Auchinleck V Hill O'Beath will attract 5,000 fans, when would you
ever get a crowd like that in the second division? I rest my case.
The bottom line is, the Scottish second division would be a step
backwards and into obscurity for the top Junior clubs.

| Jim you are right to a certain extent, but the millionaires of junior
ie Pollock, Auchenleck, Buffs etc these teams 90% of the the time are
looking for reinstatemnents and are not interested in young blood. The
junior game is now being missed by the senior clubs because it is well
below standard, you could hardly name a player who played in a junior
cup final and when to a senior club and made the grade. Anyway Jim you
got the draw you were looking for who do you think wiil qualify for the
last four my prediction is Tayport, Hil O Beith, Beith and Rutherglen,
sorry old pal but I think the Bot will go out after a replay. I hope I

Correct me if I,m wrong but didn't Andy Walker and Dougie Arnott both
play for junior clubs, I believe Walker played in a scottish cup final
against Bo'ness the last time they were there. Know doubt there are
some more arround but I agree that days of players like Kenny Dalgliesh
playing for Cambuslang are definately numbered. Are junior clubs
restricted from signing players at 14 on S forms if so this could
account for the lack of young players in the game as the senior clubs
would then have a monopoly on them.
I'm also hoping Hill o Beath can dispose of Auchinleck as well but at
the first attempt, Whitburn will be confident of reaching the semi's as
well.

| Dougie Arnott played for Pollok when Auchinleck beat them 3-2 in the
85-86 Final. He then went to Motherwell.
Andy Walker and Crawford Baptie both played for Ballieston in the cup
final against Bo'ness (was it 83-84 season)?.
As for the forth coming quarter finals here are the teams I think will
go through. Whitburn after a replay and straight wins for Tayport,
Beith and of-course Auchinleck. The talbot will beat Hill o'Beath 3-0.
As for the final, if they stay apart in the semis then it will be Beith

Wullie (temps)Temparly, played with Bo'ness in the season 75-76 when
they won the scottish cup.He was then sixteen years old and the
youngest player to score the winning goal in the scottish junior cup
and he still keeps reminding me to this day it is still a record.
He then went to Celtic FC and was with them for a few seasons and
played first team football under the great Jock Stein. He then was
transfered to Hibernian FC and was playing first team football with the
likes of George Best and was scoring a few goals and playing in Europe.
then he found drink and fell out with the Hibs manager Eddie Turnbull
he then played with some 1st/2nd division teams and back to junior
but when he was sixteen he was a treat to watch and was more than
capable of making it in any league side, far more than some of the dross
that are playing the day.Back to the question in the last so many years
of watching Bo'ness and the rubbish that are playing with them, then
watching and playing with some players in the amatuer league they are
more than capable of playing in junior football but never get the
chance because of all the old hasbeens that are playing in the game.
there's proberly to much money in even junior football to give the
young players a game now so they have to play juvenile football up to
under 21's and hope to get picked up by senior teams.

He was signed by Celtic at 13 years old, then farmed out to
Bo'ness Utd to toughen up. He started out at the same time as big
Roy and Tommy Burns etc. He's 34 now so there were quite a few
good players in the Celtic reserves at that time.
A wee story. When Jim Mclean heard Jock Stein was leeting him go,
he drove down to his house to get him to sign for Utd. He sat till
about 11.00 at night then left. Wullie came in steaming at 11.30.
He signed for hibs, who were in europe at that time, and scored a

years ago probably still stands, where has all the cash from
Celtics glory years gone?. Rich Directors possibly?.
Back to the Juniors and the debate about young players goes on.
I think the whole setup has reversed itself in the last ten years.
Where young players used to go through the Junior ranks they
are now signed on S forms and are not allowed to play Junior. If and
when they don't make the grade only then are they freed or for sale at
a moderate fee and will go Junior. In the Juniors just now there are
hundreds of players in there early twenties who are ex Kilmarnock,
Hibs,Partick Thistle etc etc. They all played for senior teams BEFORE
playing Junior, the complete opposite of what used to happen.

A very controversial game at Auchinleck with Ian Dick sent off early in
the second half after challenging the Hills keeper. The keeper should
get an oscar for his performance and I am looking forward to seeing the
incident again on the box to-night.
Auchinleck had Thomson also sent off for indiscipline (he deserved it).
The first half was very even and nothing to shout about.
With Talbot down to nine men they had Hill o'Beath pinned in there own
half for most of the second half and were very unlucky not to score.
Auchinleck's Lyden was brought down from behind in the penalty box and
the Ref waved play on (the ref was from Linlithgow and he was mingin).
In the dying seconds Auchinleck's Paterson beat two men and was heading
for goal before being brought down just outside the box. The offending
player was sent off for a proffessional foul and the goalie saved the
resultant free kick. So 0-0 it finished with Talbot well on top and I
can't wait till next week for the replay in Fife. Hill o'Beath seemed
to tire in the second half and maybe this is a weekness that talbot
will take full advantage of.

| What a performance from Auchinleck. They were superb in every dept.
Tam McDonald (Rambo) was back after injury and he totally dominated the
mid-field.
Right from the kick off Talbot were winning every ball and had Beath
pinned back. there were a few near misses and it was obvious a goal had
to come. Talbot won a corner and with all the big men marking each
other the ball came over and right back Gemmel ran in and sent a header
into the postage stamp. It was constant pressure now and a brilliant
own goal made it 0-2 at half time.
Talbot stode there ground for the first fifteen minutes in the second
half and then got fed up waiting on Hill o'Beath to come at them so
paterson went on a run, beat three men and crossed for sub Lyden to
make it three and all but finish the game. The other scorers were Mills
and Dick. It could have been even more goals but I suppose 5 will do.
It was nice to see the Keeper who cheated the week before (got a man
sent off) pick the ball out the net so often.
Semi draw on Scotsport to-morrow and we will have anybody any place.
Doubters beware, we are keeping the cup!!!!!

AUCHINLECK - GREAT, GLENAFTON - PI--
I told you all that the Glens were rubbish, even trying to buy
the cup with help from Partick Thistle players did'nt pay off.
So Auchinleck are now the only team to win the cup six times and are
going for three in a row again.
Looking back, the hardest tie Talbot had was at Fauldhouse, thats where
the wee bit of luck comes in as its true to say you must have a bit of
luck to win any cup.
Auchinleck won it the hard way playing some really good sides and
mostly away from home. The Glens never played anyone of note and it was
obvious to me before the game that the Glens were going to get whupped.
Alan Rough bummed and boasted all week on the tele and local radio
about how his team would win the cup. The Auchinleck managers team did
all the talking for him on the park and I know for a fact the
management at Auchinleck were delighted at the way the victory was

The other is Robert Brown about 25/26 a sweeper ,not noted

Most Junior teams are still playing away and it may well be mid-June

It makes you wonder about the nancy boys in senior football complaining
of playing fifty games a season and getting grossly over-paid for it.
Some Junior teams play up to ninety games a season which is ridiculous,
but, they just come home from work and get on with it.

| This week Linlithgow signed the Ormiston Primrose goalkeeper Mark Glynn
as you know he,s the junior Scotland keeper so it is a good buy.
Ormiston had to sell because they were relegated this season. But
appart from Newtongrange League champions Ormiston had the best
defensive record in the league which is apparently down mainly to him
we'll just have to wait and see if it,s true.
Linlithgow still have to games left to play 1 league game (meaninless)
and 1 Cup final against Newtongrange at Armadale on June 6th.

| Watched an excellent game last week between Camelon and Whitburn. It
was a rather unimportant league game and it turned into a cracker.
Whitburn went 2-0 ahead after only six minutes but Camelon gradually
got into the game and scored twice late in the first half to square
matters. Camelon should have gone ahead but missed a lot of chances.
It was Whitburn however who took the points after scoring two late
goals to run out 2-4 winners.
I was impressed at the improvement of Camelon from last year when they
avoided relegation by a whisker. The new management of the Fairlie
brothers have bought wisely and hope to sign a few more players for
next season. I think this team will keep imroving and the big clubs
should watch out next season.
I have heard that the Fauldhouse centre half has asked away, I wonder
if this has anything to do with the interest shown by Auchinleck.

| Auchinleck have signed Stewart Auld from Ayr Utd to replace the retiring
Sam McCulloch (centre half).
It seams the interest shown in Young of Fauldhouse was a red herring.
I hear Glenafton have offered a huge amount of money for Young because
of the "interest" shown by Auchinleck, wicked isn't it.
Auchinleck can win the league next Wednesday if they take a point in
there home game against Glens. They are also due to meet Bieth in the
quarter final of the Ayrshire cup, the season should finish toward the
end of June.

I went to the Linlithgow v Newtongrange Cup final on Friday night, the
game started brightly for linlithgow with some good moves and a lot of
pressure put on the Newtongrange defence but all the result was a
booking against a grange defender. After 10 mins grange moved up the
park for there first attack of the game a ball was put over from the
right wing and a grange player hit it first time into the bottom corner
for there first goal, as you would expect the Rose went for an
equaliser and hit the bar about 20sec,s later. After that the rose kept
trying but grange made it 2 after 30mins when after a free kick from
just inside the rose half hit the back of the head of a grange player
and over the head of keeper for number 2. Half time 2 - 0 for the
grange, the second half saw the rose defence give up. I,ve been
watching the rose for years and couldn't believe it they didn't try or
the defence didn't try in fact they wouldn't even take the ball when it
was offered too them from throw in's so the result was 6 - 0 too
Newtongrange and this flattered Linlithgow.
I would have thought that the departure of Crease the Rose coach
would have had the effect of making them try to win this cup but no
luck. Hopefully the new coach will get rid of what is obiviously dead
wood but we'll need to wait and see.

| Auchinleck finish there season this week with a meaningless league game
away to Bieth.
Once again a very successful season for the Talbot winning the Scottish
Cup ( I had another swallow of whiskey out of it last Saturday night),
the League and the Ayrshire district cup.
There will be five new signings at Auchinleck for the start of the
season, the only one I know for certain is Stuart Auld who steps up
from Ayr Utd. There will be at least four players leaving and should
know who they are by next week.
So another long hard season draws to a close, next season please
support your local Junior team and save yourself some cash as well.

celebrated there first game of the new season with a 2-1 win away to
Petershill. A trophy was put up for the game and it has to be played
for anually with the tie at Auchinleck next year. The scorers were
Thomson and Dick. Talbot had three new signings playing, they were
Steven Lindsay (ex Glenafton and Killie) Mike Possee (ex Whitlets and
Q.O.S) and Stuart Auld (ex Ayr Utd, Pollok etc.) Still a few players on
holiday, so, its off to Troon on Monday.

| A new Junior transfer record was set with the first ever transfer of a
premier league player direct to the Juniors.
Glenafton Athletic have signed Alan? Kennedy from Partick Thistle for a
fee of nine thousand pounds. This would of-course include his own
signing on fee.
He was not very effective on Saturday when Auchinleck scored four past
him (he was centre half)and it could have been many more.
Talbot had a make-shift team as six regulars were out due to suspension
or holidays and they had to field a couple of trialists.

I have not seen any betting yet but if anyone can get more than 6/1 for
Auchinleck then let me know. Once again Auchinleck are going for three
in a row.
The Ayrshire league cup final is at Ardrossan on Tues. 13th Oct. at
19:30. Irvine Meadow and Auchinleck are the finalists.
This Saturday sees the first round of the West of Scotland cup being
played, I don't know many ties but Auchinleck are at home to Greenock,
I know there are a few Greenock peeps here at SQF so if you make it to
the game then look me up, I will be in the social club and will accept

| Auchinleck won there first major trophy of the season after defeating
Irvine Meadow 5-2 in penalties in the Ayrshire league cup final.
There are not a lot of good ties in the first round of the Scottish
cup. Perhaps one of the best is at Dundee where North End are hosts to
Fauldhouse.
I was up there last year and Auchinleck struggled for a while but
eventually won 5-1 after North End had FOUR players sent off.
Good luck to your team who-ever they are (well, except Cumnock) and
hope it will be your team who will be in the final with the great
Auchinleck who are once again going for three in a row.
First round ties are being played on Sat. 31-10-92.

I see cumnock had a good result today , they got beat.
As you may guess I'm not a fan of them as they knocked out the Rose
in the scottish cup a couple of seasons ago when the rose had the game
won until the ref decided to give them a big hand.
Just as well the Rose don't have a scottish cup tie in this round as
they were beaten 6-4 at Whitburn today, Thats there first defeat in the
league so far. They signed a player from there training club Berwick
last week by the name of Thorpe , susposed to be a good player but as
I've not managed to see him play yet I'll need to wait to make a
judgement on him.

83.95 | 2nd Round best | PAKORA::JROWAN | AUCHINLECK TALBOT, SIMPLY THE BEST. | Mon Nov 09 1992 20:34 | 17 |
| Some juicy ties in the second round of the Scottish. Bo'ness at home
to Pollok looks a good one and even though the 'ness are not so good
these days I still think they will take care of Pollok as the Central
league teams have not been doing the business in the Scottish in
recent years.
Port Glasgow V Greenock looks another good tie, I fancy Port Glasgow as
I could pick a team from this plant that would beat Greenock.
One of the best teams last year (Fauldhouse) are out already and must be
very disappointed.
Camelon at home to Ardeer Thistle is another good one and I hope
Camelon can bury there hoodoo by always going out to Ayrshire teams.
Kilwinning at home to Hill o'Beath is another mouth watering tie but
the Buffs are struggling at the moment and have sacked there manager
Davie Wells (ex Ayr Utd.), perhaps the fife team can win this one after
a replay. BTW big Sam Frew (DEC AYR) has left Kilwinning and signed for
CUMNOCK, aaarrrrghhhh. Big sam scored one of the goals in last years
final.

The rose team and there two dozen supporters were applauded by the
Auchinleck fans at the end of the game.
I honestly thought the Rose would win the cup that year, but what
happened?, they got gubbed by CUMNOCK (boak boak)in the next round

be the odd shock or two. Auchinleck lost there unbeaten record this
season at home to Kilbirnie and were beaten again on Saturday away to
Kilwinning so,the favourites are struggling a bit. There are no byes

more important I hope Jeanfield Swifts are not involved in round three.

83.107 | SOME OF ROUND 2 | MASALA::JROWAN | AUCHINLECK TALBOT, SIMPLY THE BEST. | Wed Dec 02 1992 05:36 | 14 |
| Well there were a lot of games off due to the wet weather but enough
went ahead to give the usual surprise results.
Last years finalists, Glenafton could only draw with lowly Islavale 2-2
Pollok made a quick exit at the hands of Bo'ness, a great result for
the natives.
And I think we have heard the last of the comical notes from our local
Linlithgow scribe for the season as they were dumped 2-0 by un-fancied
Edinburgh Utd.
A long way to go yet but already a lot of fancied sides have gone out,
Dundee N.E. is one of my tips for a really good run this year, oh and
another interesting result was Port Glasgow 1 Greenock 0. This tie
created a lot of interest in the plant here at SQF.
The third round will be drawn at Hill o'Beaths camp on Sun.13th Dec.

Un-fancied is right as Edinburgh are just not up to much, I didn't go
to the game on Sat as I'd been to the previous twp matches when the
Rose lost 1 _ 0 too Haddington a team from the second div who were full
of old players waiting to die and only managing a 2 - 2 draw with
Livingston who've only won 1 league game so far this season and should
really have been canon fodder. So I wasn't surprised by the result,
p****d off yes but what can you do. The early season promise has gone
out the window for another year.
In 2 weeks linlithgow have to play Newtongrange in the final of the
East league cup so here's hoping for a better performance than when
they met in a final at the end of last season which as you may recall
was a performance which did not leave me impressed.
It was a very good result for Bo'ness who were written off by nearly
everybody including most of there own susporters but proved them all
wrong including me . Good luck in the next round I'll probably go watch
them then as I only watch them when they're playing in the scottish cup
but never any other time.

What, no Rosey Posey in the draw. (Linlithgow Rose to the uninitiated)
Saturday past saw the Skol league cup final. In a hotly contested
match, the Rose were up two nil at half time. After what must have been
an excellent comeback, Newtongrange were winning when a Rose player was
sent off for his second bookable offence for dissent. (Stupid, eh?)
I think it was McGonigal, scorer of both goals. Later the Rose keeper
was also sent packing for the "professional foul. Star eventually ran
out winners 4-2.
p.s.
Bo'ness beat the Star a fortnight ago while the Rose were making their
exit from the "Scottish" to Ediburgh Utd. On saturday Edin Utd beat
Bo'ness 1-0 and the Star beat the Rose in the Skol.
It's a funny old game........

83.112 | MOUTH WATERING TIES. | PAKORA::JROWAN | AUCHINLECK TALBOT, SIMPLY THE BEST. | Thu Dec 17 1992 23:36 | 15 |
| There are quite a lot of good ties in the Scottish this time. The more
juicy ones include Glenafton at home to Camelon and I honestly believe
Camelon can get a result at New Cumnock. Auchinleck have a dangerous
journey away to Stonywood (Aberdeen) I think they made the quarters
last year.
The tie of the round must be at Bo'ness, where Beith are the visitors.
Beith are the form side in Ayrshire at the moment and are running away
with the first division. Remember they got to the semis last year and
were robbed against the Glens. I would put Beith Favourites to lift the
Scottish this time as good old Auchinleck are really struggling just
now. A good pointer will be the game on Saturday when Auchinleck are at
home to Beith in the West of Scotland cup, Auchinleck have four first
team players out (two suspended). I am looking forward to this game and
there should be a crowd of around 2,000.

| Talbot were turned over on Saturday by Beith beating the wonder team 5-1.
Talbot have not conceded five goals since 1985 when Ballieston beat
them in the Scottish.
It was a much tighter game than the score suggests but Beith were
worthy winners. They don't have any individual "stars" but are a very
hard working team.
I think you could get a good price up here for Beith to beat Bo'ness in
the Scottish, sorry Davie but I'm for a tenner on Beith.
With Liverpool getting humped 5-1 and Irvine Meadow beaten by Kello
Rovers and the Auchinleck score I think there may have been something
in the air on Saturday, maybe that UFO above Bonnybridge has moved and
upset other places.
To all Junior fans and players every where...have a great xmas and a
memorable new year.

| RIGHT,
Am back!!
I gave myself a hernia watchin Auchinleck score all those goals in the
junior cup, so I have been out of circulation for a few weeks.
So the Glens are in the final again having once again gone through the
whole competition without facing any really good teams and playing most
of there games at home.
They will be praying Auchinleck don't make it against Tayport as they
know that once again they are in for a bleachin.
Talbot do have a couple of injuries for the game to-morrow but should
still win with some ease.
Yes Ron, you were right, the Scotiish Cup IS staying at home. (do I
really have to drink out of it this year again??)

| Auchinleck sure picked a bad night to go stale. With chances enough to
win six games they could not put one in the poke. Auchinleck had about
14 corners to Tayport's 3.
I did'nt think Tayport were a very good side but did what is required
to win games, SCORE.
The Glens will beat them in the final, Tayport can't be as lucky again.
It was getting a bit boring winning the Scottish so often so its nice
to have a wee break. One things for sure WE WILL BE BACK.
Good luck Glens, bring the cup through Auchinleck on the way home.

| Well done Glenafton on winning the Scottish Junior cup. The game was a
disappiontment to say the least but remember folks both teams obviously
played good stuff to get to the final. Tayport deserved what they got
from the game as the Glens had a stone wall penalty ignored in the
first half and a very good claim in the second. No doubt justice was
done and the cup stays in Ayrshire. This victory will give a much
needed lift to the people of New-Cumnock who have'nt had much to shout
about since the closure of all the mines in the area.
No doubt old Ron Donnachie will be feeling ten years younger now (49
instead of 59 and the oldest employee here at SQF), aye its a good
feeling getting pi**ed out of the cup as I have had plenty practice.
Again, congratulations Glens and we will be after you

I watched the Junior Cup Final on TV and was really quite shocked to
hear songs normally associated with Rangers being sung at this match.
I thought at first that it might have been some Rangers supporters who
had came to the match because thay had an idle weekend, but I was
further shocked by a close up of some women singing "We are the
Glenafton Billy Boys" bedecked in the junior side's colours.
If this is the normal behaviour for this mob, then lets all hope they
get knocked out in the first round next year so that they don't spoil
the Final for the countless yougsters who normally attend these
matches.

or you havent travelled very far in your lifetime.Im sure if I knew
where you come from I could name a few traditions and features about
your part of the World,or may be you live in that place UTOPIA where
there`s no bigotry or customs.or tradition. It so happens that the most
run down building in NEW CUMNOCK is the Chapel. So that might explain
the billy boys. Then again maybe thats why Celtic get put out of all
the cups, sporting an Irish flag.If you dont know anything about the
people or the town lay aff the Keech talk.By the way if you want to
ask some of those Women personally why dont you come down with me
some weekend.but leave your nuts at home.On the other hand if this

I think your note sums up the attitudes that I would like to see
disappear.
My interpretation of the Junior Cup was that the teams represented the
towns and villages throughout Scotland, regardless of who made up the
population of the town/village. It gave the town a chance to unite, not
divide.
I used to be a Rangers supporter as I have said in other notes. I now
only get behind them when they represent Scotland in the Euro cup, but
for me (being totally unbiased) my ideal would be to see Rangers and
Celtic both relegated at the same time (just to stop any arguments).

re.138
Archie I am sorry but I have to agree with Ron's Note. You do have to
have some knowledge of NEW CUMNOCK before you can comment on their
behavior, but as a person who spent many years living very near to NEW
CUMNOCK I will endeavor to give you an insight to the intelligence
and the habits of the locals. I once was talking to fellow I knew from
New CUMNOCK and I just happened to ask his young daughter what she
would like to be when she grew up and she replied with her little
chest sticking out....... the same as ma dad .....a Miner. Here's
another true story about a man I knew from NEW CUMNOCK and it is a true
example of how there superior intelligence always shows thru..His friend
Wullie Mc dickens asked him to come to Court with him to give him some
moral support, as he was up on a drink driving offence...very unusual
for Wullie. When his case came up Wullie told the judge all the reasons
why he should let him keep his licence and the the judge listened
intently, after Wullie had finished slevering, the judge turned to
Wullie's friend and said, Mr Adam's do you think that Mr Mcdicken's is
fit to drive a motor vehicle after 6 pints of lager, and without
hesitation Wullie's friend said,F*ckin 6 pints ave seen him F*ckin
drivin wi 20 pints in um.And as for the Wimmen I've again got to agree
with Ron they are pritty rough, when they are about to have there wains
they don't send for a midwife they just chew thru the umbilical cord
themselves and god help the wean if she's feelin a wee bit hungry after
her ordeal. So Archie don't be to hard on poor Ron it must have taken him
some time to lift his knuckles off the ground to type his note to you.

| Leave poor Ron alone guys, as I said before the people in New Cumnock
have had very little to boast about since the mid eighties when all the
men were thrown on the scrap heep when the last pit shut. The only men
working in the village are the post man (delivering giros) and the poll
tax man. It would be easier to climb Everest on roller skates than it
would be to get a pound poll tax money from a New Cumnock wumin. It is
said when things get really tough up there, they eat there young and
they still claim family allowance for them.
Back to Junior football, and it now looks certain that the most
successful Junior team of all time are breaking up. Billy Young
(captain) has announced his retirement followed by Sam McCulloch and
Ross Findlay, thats almost a whole defence that needs replaced. I think
others will go, like Hugh Lyden and maybe Tam McDonald.
Yip, there will be some re-building at Auchinleck and it might take us
a wee while to get back to the top but, make no mistake, we will be
back.
Well done the Glens on winning the League. Talbot are going for there
third trophy on Friday when thay play Annbank for the Ayrshire super

| The recent league cup semi-final between Cumnock and Auchinleck was one
of the best games between the sides for a long time.
Finishing at 3 all after extra time Auchinleck then won on penalties.
During and after the match the Cumnock fans disgraced there team with
four pitch invasions during the game and then threw misiles into the
Auchinleck crowd as they were leaving.
Seven Cumnock fans? were arrested and one was remanded.
Surely the SJFA can't keep ignoring the behaviour of these people.
In previous incidents at Cumnock the Auchinleck keeper was hit with a
pool ball, at the Ayrshire junior meeting this was "noted".
Next a player was assaulted when a Cumnock committee man hit him with a
corner flag, again it was "noted".
This time something positive must be done before we get a real blood

| Davie Rooney is the first person I know who plays Junior football and
yet knows nothing about it. He says Tayport were 50/1 before they
played Camelon when in fact, they were 6/1 favourites to win the cup.
After the third round the favourites are now Arthurlie at 5/1.
I was up at Dundee at the Auchinleck game and the Talbot's luck finaly
ran out. They had almost all the pressure but simply could not score.
It would not have been so hard to take if St Josephs were a good team,
they were mince as was proved the following week. So I will save myself
quite a lot of holidays next year now that the Talbot have failed to
reach the third round for the first time in 23 years.
The report on the Irvine Meadow V Linlithgow game said the Meadow
dominated for 80 minutes but could not find the net so we can assume
that Lithgy won't go very much further in the cup.
Glenafton? they are so bad it hurts. The first half decent team to draw
them will put them out.
This is the most open cup contest for a long time and I think the
winner will come from the Central league.

The alternative might be to visit Tynecastle or Easter Road but from

so they are through to the next round as well.
There might not be many junior games being played due to the christmas

games arranged but I haven't heard what they are yet.
On sat Newtongrange drew 1-1 with Bo'ness at Bo'ness in the league.

| Don, if you hang around you may be able to see the League cup final
between Lithgy and Camelon. I heard they are trying to set this game up
early in the new year(weather permitting) at Brockville.
This should be a great final although Lithgy have had the upper hand in
most games in recent years.
Am fur a tenner oan Camelon to win there first cup since Lewis Ferguson
started school 45 years ago.
The Star were beaten 1-0 by some wee team in the Scottish, Don, I think
it may have been been Culter.
The betting for the Scottish is usually published every Friday in the
Evening Times, Davie. Your local bookie could also give you prices on
request.

For the league cup final the latest I've heard is the week before the
next round of the scottish and brockville the favourite.
The last few meetings between the two has probably seen camelon on top
but as always it'll depend if camelon has got a full squad because
there's has not a lot of depth while the rose has a shed-full.
It should be a good game though...... It's been 11 seasons since
Camelon last won a trophy..long may it continue..

| The long awaited League cup final between Linlithgow and Camelon takes
place at Brockville on Saturday 19th Feb.
Both these teams are bang on form and as far as I know Camelon have not
lost a game in normal playing time this season. Lithgy too are going
well and are still in the Scottish.
Should be a great game, I will go for Camelon to win A.E.T.

83.191 | Cumnock Investigated | KIRKTN::JROWAN | Auchinleck Talbot WILL be back! | Mon Feb 14 1994 17:45 | 27 |
| It is reported in some of the press that the S.F.A. are to launch an
inquiry into the trouble at the games between Cumnock Juniors and
Auchinleck Talbot.
It seems because the Ayrshire J.F.A. and the Scottish J.F.A. have been
slow to punish Cumnock in the past that the S.F.A. have went over there
heads and hope to sort this trouble out.
Can I point out that there has never been trouble at Auchinleck for 15
years when the club was hammered by the S.J.F.A. when a fan assaulted a
Cumnock player(?).
To list all the incidents at Cumnock would use all my disc space so I
won't bother.
Two weeks ago the teams met at Auchinleck and Talbot were reduced to 9
men before the break. The game finished 2-2 and seven more players were
booked, a fan also collapsed and died but at least there were no broken
legs. The ref was a disgrace.
Talbot won the replay on Saturday at Cumnock 3-1 and the Auchinleck
keeper was assaulted by a Cumnock person throwing a brick. There were
no sending off's, no one died and all the players finished the game
with two legs each, however there were nine bookings.
Auchinleck are at home to Glenafton in the next round of the Ayrshire
cup.
Still fancy Arthurlie for the Scottish but really, it is wide open this
year and there is still a lot of dross teams left ie, teams from the
North plus Largs, Linlithgow etc.
See all you locals at Brockville on Saturday and will wait in Camelon
Boolin club until they bring the cup down at night.

| Fancy Kilwinning will be in the final after to-night. Unlike the
"seniors?" these semi's are played to a finish.
I have had a fancy for Arthurlie for a while but the Glens are there
again in another semi. My heart says Glens but with HOME advatage I
fear the Barrhead club will win through maybe even after extra time.
Am going to a REAL old firm game to-morrow where Auchinleck entertain
Cumnock in a vital league match. Auchinleck must win to have a chance
of winning the league while Cumnock need the points to avoid almost
certain relegation.
Once again there should be a three thousand plus crowd and I don't care
how many players are booked or sent off or how many fans die from heart
attacks, as long as there are no broken legs or serious injury on the
park. I am fed up hearing that sickening snapping noise when a leg
goes.

|
Heres a wee snippet of news..
Preston Athletic are currently applying to join the East of Scotland
(senior) league. One of the reasons they are doing so is that :-
The Junior set-up are thinking about a change in the leagues and
there will be 3 leagues.
East of scotland
West of scotland
and a junior super league for all the top junior clubs.
Now this is the first i've heard about it so can any of you junior
die-hards shed any more light on this.
I think it would be good for the top teams but i don't know how they
would decide on who they would be.

| Result of the game played to-night in the Doon valley cup........
Auchinleck Talbot 3 Glenafton Athletic 0
No more details.
Re 208. This super league has been spoken about for the last ten years
or so. the biggest problem in the past is that the smaller teams would
not agree to it for obvious financial reasons.
The last I heard a couple of years ago was that the top six or so from
the Ayrshire and Central (Glasgow district) to make up a West of
Scotland league.
The East and Fife league could do likewise with Tayside and the North
completing the leagues.
I think this would be great for the Junior game with some cracking
games every week. The thousand or so gates that Auchinleck can attract
at league games just now would probably at least double and the same
can be said of most of the teams joining this set up.
I hope something like this does happen as the Juniors could easily
compete for crowds with the seniors in the second and third divisions.
Yes I'm all for it.

I wonder if they watched Sportscene on Saturday night,as Nicky

Glenafton had two players sent off, 1 for a deliberate headbutt and
the 2nd for taking a blatant dive in the penatly area(his second
booking of the game).
Largs also had two players sent off, the 1st for punching a glenafton
player during the headbutting incident and the other for
pushing/throwing a glenafton player to the ground right in front of the
ref.
Appart from that the game looked not too bad(i only saw the 2nd half)
and Largs should really have scored more. Glenafton tried to hard and
didn't really get many chances.

| Re 244,
Junior football is almost identical to English non-league
football.
It is organised in regions, unlike English non-league the Scotland
juniors are not elegible to enter the Scottish cup, they have one of
there own.
Junior Scotland, England, Wales, N.ireland and Eire all had there own
F.A. and competed against each other regularly. England however,
withdrew from these competitions a few years ago.
Players get "caps" when picked to play at Junior international level.
It used to be very common to have young players go through the Junior
ranks into senior football. I suppose one of the most famous would be
Kenny Dalgleish. He played for Cumbernauld Juniors before going to
Celtic (you could win a pint or two in the pub with that one).
Any more info required, give us a shout.

| Well this is it, the big week-end is looming as it is cup time again.
The biggest crowd will be at Auchinleck on Saturday when they take on
bitter rivals Cumnock. The last time these teams met in the Cup was at
Cumnock in 1976 when a crowd of 9,000 saw Auchinleck win 1-4.
This time a 5,000 crowd is predicted and the same result will do fine.
Auchinleck were beaten for the first time in 90 mins this season when
Beith won an Irvine Times cup replay 2-1 last Saturday.
The other "big" game is between Linlithgow and Bo'ness and again this
should be a cracker.

83.270 | Auchinleck V Cumnock | PAKORA::JROWAN | Auchinleck Talbot WILL be back! | Mon Dec 05 1994 05:05 | 23 |
| Watched a good game at Auchinleck between the Junior old firm.
A crowd of 2,500 (officialy) saw Cumnock take the lead in 5mins and
missed a good chance to go two up soon after. As the first half wore on
Auchinleck were dominating for long spells but shots on goal were very
few. Just on half time Cumnock cleared the ball off the line to deny
the Talbot an equaliser.
Four mins into the second half and the pressure finally told on
Cumnock. Auchinleck were awarded a free kick some thirty yards out and
man of the match Stevie Logan bent the ball past the wall and into the
postage stamp for the equaliser. Auchinleck were now parked in the
Cumnock half and had a string of corners before Sam Frew netted with a
header in the 70th minute. Kenny Paterson got the third direct from a
corner five minutes from time.
This was one of the most sporting derby games I have seen and although
seven players were booked it was never dirty (for a change). I heard
that Auchinleck full back Steven Lindsay suffered a compressed fracture
of the cheek bone in a dodgy challenge but other than that there were
no broken legs and I don't think anyone died, so a good days work for
Auchinleck.

83.280 | Camelon V Fauldhouse....a stoater | KIRKTN::JROWAN | Auchinleck Talbot WILL be back! | Wed Dec 21 1994 07:26 | 34 |
| Took in the Camelon V Fauldhouse game on Saturday and it was a cracker.
Camelon scored in five minutes against a very strong wind and missed
loads of chances before Fauldouse equalised and then began to dominate
using the wind to there advantage. Fauldhouse took there chances and
went in at the interval 3-1 up. Camelon threw caution to the wind at
the start of the second half to try and get back into the game but they
were being held comfortably by Fauldhouse. a slack pass in midfield by
Camelon was punished when Fauldouse broke away and scored a great goal.
Midway through the half Camelon got one back and were now parked in the
Fauldouse half. Three minutes to go and 4-2 for Fauldhouse and the
heavens opened, it was pissing down, I think the Fauldouse defence were
trying to get to shelter as Camelon scored again, 4-3. Yip it was time
up and the ref checking his watch when unbelievably Camelon equalised.
The ball was centered and ten seconds later Camelon should have won the
game when a striker went through with just the goalie to beat and hit
it wide. Now it really was all over, a superb 4-4 draw in atrocious
conditions.
The locals were saying Fauldhouse had come on leaps and bounds since
there new manager took over and I think this is a good team in the
making. I sat next to the Fauldhouse manager (Dennis Lawson) at the
draw for the Junior cup on Sunday and he was telling me some of his
plans for the club.
If any of you Fawdee peeps have not saw your team for a while then I
recommend a visit and give this guy your support.
They have a very hard draw in the Scottish and it may just come too
soon for them but, come next season, they will be a major force again.
From your chief Junior reporter
Jimmy.

Fauldhouse but it would take too long to tell, and no, he is'nt.

Supporters are being asked to give thirty pounds each which will buy a

I hope this gains the required support but with unemployment so high in

off the ref has to abandon the game" routine. They then promptly had
another man sent off, only for the referee "Not" to abandon the game.
A riot then ocurred, and the ref had to abandon the game anyway !!
Apparently, the Whitburn physio was then "Mugged" & ended up in
hospital. My facts are a little hazy, as the info did come from the
Sunday Mason. More info would be greatly appreciated.

There was some guy from Whitburn on the Radio Clyde phone-in on
Saturday. He had just come from the aforementioned game and was
a tad upset about the afternoon's proceedings.
He claimed the Dalry players were stamping on Whitburn players faces
and the that their supporters were being intimidated by the louts
supporting Dalry..
This all sounds pretty tame stuff for the juniors. That Whitburn mob
must be a right bunch of jessies..

Martin,
You'd have thought those Whitburn boys would have toughened up a bit by
now. I'd have thought that all the kickings they took from the Faw-Dee-Da
boys over the years, would have turned them into hard men, not big
shandy drinking girl's party dresses !

I was at the game on Saturday. There was no crowd trouble, well not
that much. What happened was, after the ref sent off Gerry Malone,
he came over to the linesman at the stand side. Someone threw a
half-full can of McEwans at him, which missed, the polis came in and
lifted somebody, and then there was fights between Dalry and Whitburn
officials. The papers blew it all out of proportion. The folk that
threw stuff at the ref were part-time huns, who were singin' raingurs
songs at half-time.

i was not at the game but the story here is that
Whitburn scored the first goal then the dalry players went nuts and
started argueing amongst themselves. A whitburn player broke clean
through and got chopped for his troubles, the ref sent off the first
player for that tackle(last man and all that). Next a dalry player
brought down the whitburn forward (free kick given). As the whitburn
player was kneeling down the dalry player kneed him in the
face(booking), then when the whitburn player tried to get up he was
pushed by the dalry player back in the dirt(sent off for that). Next
one of the remaining dalry players took offence at this and approached
the ref and tried to nut him(sent off). Next offender to go was also
during this incident for argueing with the ref. That was them down to
7 men. Whitburn further extended there lead and dalry put on there sub,
he promptly did some serious chomping ion the whitburn forward(again)
and got sent off. There were also one or two other incidents with dalry
players chopping down whitburn players and then standing on them.
Nice team this dalry.
After the game was abandoned the whitburn physio caught a thrown bottle
with the back off his head(hospital job) nice fans too.
Well what happens now,,,, replay or is whitburn awarded the tie....

accurate about was the day of the game. I was at the game and there
were nobody singing any songs at half time. Dalry Thistle made a
complete rearend of themselves......trying to play football........
There will be NO replay of this game......if anything Dalry should be
banned from appearing in the OVD Cup for a couple of seasons hopefully
by this time the young BOYS will be mature MEN trying to play football.
They should also be heavily fined. Typical Ayrshire team !!!!

It was not a fan who knocked out the Whitburn guy. That incident
happened in the dressing room.
Re:last
You must have been on the other side, in the open. There was about six
folk singin' the huns version of Fields of Athenry, Here lies a
Soldier, Hallo, Hallo, and No Surrendur. They were also singin' Wiggle
Wiggle. They do not usually go to the games, the only reason they went
in was because it was half-time and they got in for nothin'. I was in
the corner away from the dressing rooms. We were singin and having a
laugh. We never threw anything at the officials or tried to cause
trouble. All we were guilty of was singing obscenities(sp?) about the
polis and the referee, and about your Whitburn slums.

| Could'nt get into football notes last week so here is my tuppence worth
regarding the Dalry game.
I was not surprised of the reported incidents at this game. Afew years
ago Auchinleck played at Dalry in an Ayrshire cup tie and the
Auchinleck goalie was attacked by a Dalry "fan" with a bottle. This was
followed by a riot and Dalry conceded the tie. That day there was a
dozen or so neds sitting drinking in the park (against the law) and the
Dalry committee did nothing.
This team obviously find it very difficult to cope with getting through
the first rounds of any competition and, if the S.J.F.A. consider the
Auchinleck game as well as what happened last week then Dalry must be
barred from the "Scottish" for at least a season.
Dalry are a second division team and lets hope they stay there until
they grow up.
I have never been to Dalry since that incident and very few Auchinleck
supporters have, so, by there own actions they are missing out on gate
money which I am sure would be useful to pay all there fines.
By the way Donny, Whitburn have as much chance of winning the Scottish
this year as Auchinleck has, nuff said.

Livvy go down to division 2.
the first goal was an absolute classic.
The Rose knocked a ball across the box for a livvy defender to get it,
he calmly passed it back to his keeper who went to thump it up the park
but "" he missed the ball"" and it trundled into the net. This as you
would expect raised a few choice comments from defenders and the crowd
when they'd stopped laughing that is.
Livvy had been trying hard but after that they looked a wee bit
pee'ed off so to speak.

Steve,
I'm so sorry I couldn't get access to the "Channel::Swimming"
notes file, could you send more info. I never knew something like
this would offend you, I did TRY to swim it but FAILED.....simple
as that !!! I can see that you have done something worthwhile in
your lifetime to follow 'The-Third-Hun-Team' in the present league
keep it up, they might win something before the 'Tic or the 'Burnie.
NOT !!!!!!
Now to last nights game........
Whitburn beat Camelon 2-1 at their ground, a good result in the
league. This also shows what they could do in the cup when they
clash !!!!

Prediction for the Scottish Junior Cup Final on Sunday.
CAMELON 2 V WHITBURN 3
Possibly a tight and messy game with both teams giving their all,
but at least Whitburn to come out with a victory and recieve the

83.387 | Managerial changes in Ayrshire | MASALA::JROWAN | I luv puddocks | Tue May 30 1995 07:37 | 11 |
| Three of the top Ayrshire teams have appointed new managers recently.
John Minford resigned from Auchinleck and they now have the services of
Beith and Scotland boss Dennis Gray.
Gray played ten years at Auchinleck and is the all time highest scorer
for the club, he takes over at the end of the season. The only thing
against him is that he was the boss the last time Cumnock won the cup.
Ex Auchinleck boss Willie Knox (six scottish cups, and 47 other
trophies) is the new boss at Irvine Meadow and Dick Brock the ex
Scotland junior manager is taking over at Beith.

| So Where are all yoos Junior fans, got lost in the Arctic fur three
months.
Scumnock and Talb-ooot have now joined the Glens out of the Scottish
Cup. My moneys on Tayport again.
Okay I'll admit to being a Glens fan, and make my only comment "Roughie
must go!!!!" What a crap disappointing season, if that's the best he
can put on the park then its time to go. He's losing the Glens fans
fast- some of us even resort to going shopping with the wife rather
than watch them. Someday the mighty Glens will march again- I hope?
MWT
p.s. Denis Gray's a wonker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
