449.0. "Calling all housewives!" by NEARLY::GOODENOUGH (Jeff Goodenough, IPG Reading-UK) Thu Dec 03 1987 17:22

I think this probably belongs in this file.

I received a questionnaire from a TV rental company a couple of
days ago. One question made my eyes pop out:

"When you buy or rent a TV or video, who has the main say in which
shop or shops to go to?"

Fair enough, but this was the list of boxes to tick:

    			Male head of household
    			Female head of household
    			Female housewife
    			Other adult in family
    			Child
    			Nobody else/equal

    Comments?

    Jeff.

PS: TV/VCR rental is quite popular here. I used to rent from this
company, but recently bought. They also got my address wrong.

Calling *all* of them, or only the female ones ?

Re the questionnaire, I suggest you select the reply:

Many years ago, a friend of mine lost his job, while his wife
did not. He then found that the U.S. Government had a job
description for his position, and that it had a title. That
    title was "housewife".

I know this is a bit "late", but I always thought that wives who
stayed home and looked after the house (or whatever the definition
is) were housewives, and if it was the men, they were househusbands.

The correct response is to rip up any questionnaire from anyone who's
trying to sell you anything. Grrrrrrrrrr....
