| John,
IMHO, everyone is "Shaq'ed" out and broke buying all the BKB products
with Shaq in them.
I bought Fleer Ultra BB and I think it's a very nice product. I've
had my want list in this notes file for several weeks and I haven't
seen anyone else looking for Ultra BB commons, yet.
Basketball has been crazy all winter, but nothing like the number of
Baseball products that are out or coming out. Like you said, people
are tired of sooo many different BB products...
Regards,
Denny

enthusiasm... and subsequently, my spending.

I don't think the Leaf will get you going either, dealer cost is
supposed to be $40, so you can guess what our cost will be.

| Same here. No interest in cards. I have a want list for Topp's
Series II Baseball Gold but seems no one else is collecting them.
The regular Topps I have went into a box unsorted and then into
the closet.
It's golf season. Can't afford $30 green's fees and $45 boxes of
cards. One had to go.

| I gotta agree, seems every product coming out is very high priced.
Even those Triple Play cards that are supposed to be for kids are .75 a
pack. I went to a show in Charlotte NC, about 50 tables and the only
current hockey was UD. Only 2 dealers had either, one wanted $50 for a
box the other 33. Passed on both. Its tough when half of the tables
are selling stuff at 40% off, old stuff too. Good condition and
everything. I think staying away from the hyped up stuff is best. I
don't believe the current values of Shaq ect.. will hold up.

| I've been waiting for this day to come for a while,no more hype on
Shaq. I'm Shaqed out,McShaqued out,and Shaq attacked out,now I can
start completing some of my sets that have been hanging around for
the last couple of months. I looked at all my cards from 1989 and 1990
excluding Leaf baseball, and Score football, I'm going to sell
everything at my yard sale, one big table of everything, just let it
all go,this way I'll have some money for (1993 Football) NOT.
I agree with you Steve and Saint,I've had it !

| Hey John....why don't you let us all know where/when the yard sale is
going to happen? Just think...if you price the items low enough, you
might keep some of us in the hobby for a while longer!!!
Just kidding.........

556.9 | ramblings | DDIF::TANCILL | Well, hello Mr. Soul | Wed Apr 28 1993 19:12 | 28 |

I've been saying for awhile now what happens after Shaq hype dies
down and you guys are feeling it, nothing. We've had the ultimate
peak in hype (Shaq and series 2 basketball), now it's fading and
nothing all that exciting is going on. We've had two plus years of
high quality cards (nothing new in this years ultra, stadium, etc.)
and we've had two plus years of inserts (nobody is collecting full
inserts sets they way they used to even a year ago, it's old hat and
the prices almost always come down a month or two later, come down even
more as more time passes). And yet the prices are still high for
boxes, etc. Couple that with too many companies and too many sets
and eventually everyone is going to get the blahs. You can't keep
up even if you had the money, nothing fresh at a good price is really
coming out, just more of the same and it all costs too much.
I think we are seeing a classic peak in a market cycle, the frenzied
spike caused by Shaq-mania is a classic sign of a speculative top.
Now, having said all that I think if you're any kind of a basketball
collector, Shaq not-withstanding, you have to love this class of
rookies. As people blow out basketball sets, stash one away for the
kids or grand kids, they'll thank you 20 or so years from now ;-).
(not intended to be an ad for my for sale note, I really think some
people are over looking a great rookie crop as they become
disillusioned with the Shaq overhype.)

| Cheer up! Rick Middleton is signing autographs at the
Chelmsford Mall tonight from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. They have
a card show going as well, although yesterday they had only
3 dealers there. Maybe Sat/Sun will bring out more?

Well John, I sure hope that this lull in enthusiasm will cause
a thinning of the various card sets. I love football cards but
having soooo many sets to follow and sort through is a royal pain.
If I were the card gods, I'd like to have 7 different sets, not
the 23 sets plus, of course, first and second series' and various
inserts (fanimation, gold, silver, gridiron stars......). It's abit
much for me. Even cut down by 1/3 would be great!
Anyway, watch out for the Chargers this year......;-)

I didn't know where to put the following, so if the Moderator
wants to move it or delete it's fine with me. Since this note
has the word "dead" I thought it would be appropriate to place
it here...
EXTRA !!! EXTRA !!!
The Red Sox have announced a major trade that they think will solve
their problems. They just announced this morning a trade of their
team physician Pappas (sp?) for John Kavorkian (sp?), the suicide
doctor...
