396.0. "Autographed Cards (only)" by EBBCLU::MONDALTO () Fri Feb 21 1992 16:40

I didn't see anything on Auotgraphs so I think I'll create a note.
I bought some 1991 Classic Draft Picks last night and I got some real
good cards, the were Brien Taylor, Dan McGwire, Larry Johnson, Russell
    Maryland,Faloon,and the (Maryland,Taylor,Johnson,and Lindros) card,
after seeing those cards I told my son & daughter that this could
probably be our lucky day,all of a sudden my daughter who is 11 years
old lets out a scream,Dad I got an autographed card, she was so excited
it was like she won a $1,000,000.

The card that she got was of Jamie Pushor Hockey, there are no stats on
the back of the card,it only reads,Congratulations you have just
recieved an extremely limited classic draft pick autographed card. Can
someone tell me who this young player is, Thanks John .

Your daughter is lucky. Supposedly there is one autograph in every
six boxes. I'm putting together lots of sets and find that the LP8
card and the autographs are really rare.

Has anyone found any Conlon (1992) autographs?
Supposedly two of the HOF signers have died since the cards were
    autographed.

A clue for Classic. If you are sure that an autograph came out of a
wax box, check the number on the inside of the wax box lid.
The number is a four digit with a dot between digits 3 and 4
(XXX.X). All of the boxes in that case (12) have the same number.
No other boxes have that number. Then you have to gamble. At least
two other boxes, and up to 10, have the same autograph card.
This was true for me with Russel Maryland and Frankie (Double A)
Rodriguez. Interestingly Frankie signs his name

    No other letters.
    Neat -

    Mike-

Recent HOF members who have passed away include Luke Appling,
and Cool Papa Bell, but it's very unlikely that either one of them
signed for the Conlon collection -- Appling maybe, CPB -- very
    unlikely.

Any idea who the signers were?

Appling died about a year ago. Unless he signed them late in 1990 or
early 1991. Doubt he was one of them. And there were no blacks in the
Conlon photos since they weren't in the AL or NL at the time. Thus, it
must be hype, Watson. Wonder who signed nonetheless.

Luke is one of them. I'll find out who the others were. The guys
at Conlon are also putting out a Ruth set.
Supposedly the autos from luke were in the mail when he bought
    the farm.

I think the second one was Vandermeer SP.

The Ruth set will have 165 cards-High Gloss black and white.
    It ships in April.

396.9Another question on the Ruth set?CARTUN::PAVLOCKThu Mar 05 1992 16:516
    More on the Ruth set:

Will it be a set or in wax packs and you make a set?

    Regards,
    Denny
396.10Please, no gloss coating6219::CHOYThu Mar 05 1992 18:533
That Ruth set would be nicer, IMO, if it did NOT use gloss/UV/tiffany
coating. Old pictures/players and super-duper coating do not seem a
    good combination to me.

The Ruth set will come in wax. They won't say regarding a factory
set. It probably will be out later in the year.

re LP's from Classic draft picks
Supposedly the Autographs and LP 8 the gold card are the most rare.
then the remainder of the LP's.

Are these factory printed autographs or hand-written? How does a
hand-written autograph affect the value of a card?

    re .13
After terrible luck getting autographs, my luck has changed. I even
have some doubles. The cards from conlon and classic are hand signed by
    the athelete.

Saw a Montana auto. at a show this weekend ($75). Is this the going
price? I thought $25-$30 would be more like it.
