I was told that Leaf is coming out with a 1991 Leaf set and
series I is being delieverd around June/July time frame. I
going to preorder a couple of wax boxes at $48 a box last
year I purchased a Box for $55 at Rotmans. If anyone's interested
in preordering them send me mail at GSMART::Matos and I can
include you in the order. If possible I would like to know by
April 12th if I get enought the price might be less.

Have you talked to Ratmans? Have they quoted you a price already?

    Your opinion on the following:
Is Leaf going to limit the quantity they are going to print like
the '90? Do you think the '91 will be as hot as the '91? Will '91
be hot only because of the '90 or will it be hot on it's own merit?
Does Leaf put our complete factury sets? If not, what is a hand
set of '90 selling for today?

Last week I walked into Marlboro's finest card shop and saw a
1990 Leaf Ken Griffry Jr. card mark at $15 ($3.50 over book).
Well, during lunch today I went back planning on getting him down
to book price.. When I got there the card was gone, and when I
asked about it, he said he sold it yesterday for $40... (Yes $40).

For the noters who know who I'm talking about, do you think he's
pulling my leg on the $40 price tag?

For those of you who don't know who I'm talking about, I wouldn't
trust this guy in a pool full of aligators...

That must of been the special gold LEAF cards. They are nice looking
cards, my son got a Todd Van Poppel out of a pack a gold card. It was
selling for $20.00 that day at the show. I believe thier are 24 to a
    set in the gold cards.

After opening a box of these, the more I went thru, the more those
black corner decorations bothered me. I found my eyes drawn to the
stupid corners rather than the picture. Get those corners off the
    card!

The Gold Leaf rookie cards are nice, but the regular cards themselves
are nothing to wirte home about. These 91 Leafs make me want to
collect 90 Leaf instead. Anyone else develop a distaste for the
    jagged black corner decorations?

259.16price report, 1991 LeafDDIF::TANCILLlong may you runMon Jul 08 1991 15:3816

BTW, regarding prices, I have seen boxes for anywhere from $65-$85/box
at shows. A recent SCD had them around $65/box but sometimes you had
to get a case to get that price.

They are starting to dribble out though, Toys R Us in Nashua had a case
come in last wednesday, straight $1.50/pack, $54 for the box, but you
could only by one box. By thursday morning the ten boxes were gone.
There was also a reported shipment hit the Pace store in Manchester,
NH, 2 box limit @ $30/box! They also disappeared very quickly. I am
puzzled at how Pace sold them so low as I thought the factory cost
was around $35/box, but my point here is don't pay $2+ a pack for
these, you can find them cheaper.

I'll be picking my box up this week for $50/box. This is the
best price I've seen published. And it's from my local dealer.

I liked the '90 Leaf so much, I just had to have '91... I do
feel that Donruss is ripping off the card collecting public when
they issue the set in two series. Since there is only 528 cards
in a set, why not just issue one series? Must have to do with
	money, what else?

What's the story with the Leaf Gold Cards? What numbers will be in the
	Series I boxes?
I bought a box yesterday and got numbers BC6 through BC12

Where are numbers BC1-BC5? And will BC13-BC24 be in Series II?

BC1-BC12 is in series one wax, BC13-BC24 in series two wax.

Did it end up costing you $50 for the box? I local dealer around
here was promising $50/box and when he finally got the case in this
week it was "oops!, make that $75 a box."

259.21Not a bad Distribution either.SBGPX2::BELISLEMike Belisle MRO4-1/H20 297.3324Thu Jul 11 1991 11:2511
	Jeff,

Yes, 50$/Box. If you wanted two boxes, the second one cost 65$..
Still not a bad price compared with other dealers getting as high
	as 95$ (Hudmar).. I'm currently looking for BC1 thru BC5, I have
Gold Leaf card 'Mo Vaughan' to trade. My other double Todd Van
Poppel is already committed to the Saint. Anyone wanting to trade
there doubles of BC1 thru BC5, Let me know.

Do you have a Gary Scott, I have several of those gold cards
I will be will to trade with you. Let me get a list of the
gold cards I have, Did you get any Frank Thomas's out of your
boxes? I did'nt get any out of my boxes. Have a nice one, laters.

	Re: -1

I have since trade with John St. Onge and have all but three of
the Gold Leaf Cards (BC2,BC3,BC4). I don't have anymore doubles
of the Gold Leaf Cards, but would be willing to trade regular
leaf cards for Gold or just buy the Gold Leaf Cards I need.

We should continue this discussion off-line via E-Mail.

Just came from Price Savers and bought a box of
Leaf II for $32.00 plus tax. I went through them
and got a Gold Leaf Moment with Nolan Ryan on it.
It has No Hitter #7 on the front of it. Some guy
outside was trying to buy the boxes off of people
for $50.00 but it was one box per card!

Toys R Us (Manchester) got Leaf II's in yeterday,$1.49 per pack,
$53.64 a box and 1 box per customer. You would think that these
cards were free the way they were going. The only thing I don't
like is I got too many dups and trips, the only good thin was that
    I got 3 Thomas's, 3 Griffey jr's, 2 Ryan 7th no hitter,and no dups
on the gold card rookies. if anybody wants to do some trading send
mail, or give me a call.

I'm trying to trade a couple of extra gold Ryans, Thomas, and Erickson
but I'm not sure what I shouild be getting for them. What have you
guys been seeing these go for?

    Jim
259.29pricesDDIF::TANCILLlong may you runTue Aug 27 1991 14:5914
I've seen gold Ryans going for anywhere from $5-$20. Personally,
I think they aren't worth much more than $5-$7 in trade because they
are pretty plentiful. That's just my opinion of course. Thomas I've
seen for $4-$7, don't know on Erickson, tough to say on the both of
them without at least some guidance from a Beckett's listing.

I have had good luck trading extra Ryans and Hendersons staright up
for other golds I need to complete a set, dealers like them because
they do move (at $5-$8, not $15-$20 which is outrageous). Sometimes
you can two "commom" golds for each ryan and/or henderson.

Erickson? Rookie pitchers are a little harder to "bank" on than
rookie batters (not to mention that Frank Thomas had an excellent
1/2 season last year too, so it's now more like 1.5 seasons).

259.31Food for ThoughtELMAGO::JVERGOTue Aug 27 1991 16:5314

It seems to me that there are a few more Leaf around (at least here
in the s.w.) this year than last. I think we will see more of this
next year from leaf and from Stadium Club. I fact hasn't Fleer Ultra
increased their run already ? I believe these companies will adjust
their thinking and give the public what they are asking for, better
quality and more of it at a lower price. I think we will eventually
see the low end card phase out and see only the Stadium Club, Leaf,
and U.D. types primarily. The prices will drop because of a larger
volume. This will then bring on some new and improved version of
a card, like an all hologram set, or all 24kt gold.
If this does happen the early sets will be very collectible.
