Was anyone else at the BG show saturday about 9:00. Someone opened
up 4 or 5 cases of proset hockey and was selling them for $20 a box. I
only had $20 on me because I always spend too much at those things, so
I was only able to get one box. They were gone in about 10 minutes.
Anyone else I saw with them were selling them for between $30 and $35.

Picked up a box of Hockey cards yesterday on the way home for $17.50.
The distribution was a little over 96%.
There are 405 cards in Series I, and I ended up only needing 15 cards.
One of the cards in the box had no number on the back of it. It was the
'Lester Patrick Trophy', I sure this is only the beginning of all the
variations we'll see.
Anyway, anyone that has purchased those cards already will probably be
willing to do some trading. Here are the cards I need.
97,142,145,193,269,285,286,325,339,357,359,367,376,385,390.... and....

I went home to see what the errors were that would be on so many
cards. My son started this at the BG show (collecting this cra_
, that is). I now have plenty of proof that Pro Set cards are junk
IMO. Every card listed in the previous note does have an error.
They have one position on the front and something else on the
back. E.G. lW on the front and center on the back. Albeit nice looking
cards, they still remind me of 71 Topps cards and you know what the
most of those look like now. Also they seem to be in such a rush
that proof reading their cards seems to be non-existant. They are
also very flimsey cards and their cutting procedure seems to damage
many corners on the cards.
Nuff said. I feel better now.

Mike, I went home last night and checked my Ray Borque card, and to
my surprise, there it is, the error card with his name spelt wrong 8^).

| I bought a couple packs to check them out, and I agree they're nice
looking but awfully flimsy. And there's no excuse for the errors. At
least Topps hasn't resorted to issuing cards for Wayde Buggs, Don
Muttingly, and Nolyn Ryen. And how about the 10-cent discount coupon
in each pack so you can buy NHL-licensed merchandise from Pro Set. What
would they send you, a Boston Brooins shirt?

|
My son bought some more of these cards this weekend. My observations
are this;
If you are opening packs that contain an orange $.10 discount
card, you stand a chance of getting the "Ray Borque" error (he got
one).
If you are opening packs with a white $.10 discount card, you
stand a chance of getting......Get this one folks!!!! Are you ready for
this one???.....A genuine Bret Hull Promo card numbered 1. (he got Two
2 of them).
Many of the cards were cut way off center big time! I must of
discarded about 25 of them for this. Many of the cards had scuffs or
scratches on the front of the card (another 15 or 20 into the trash).
Some others had been cut and packed while the ink was still wet (10
more to the old trash can).
Great cards, run out and buy as many as you can. Anyway he only
needs one more card to complete his set. Can you guess who and what
number?
# 1 Ray Bourque. correct version.

How much were the Borque cards going for?
I agree that the mix in a box was outstanding. Look at your cards
again and see if you see any problems with cards around the 170
area (centering). Look at the numbers and the very right hand side
of the card to see if you see any of the green border that would
surround a players face. As for scuffing, look at the cards under
strong lite so you see the glare. Maybe the box my son had was
made on Friday afternoon or monday morning. The corner problems
seem to come from thier method of card cutting.
I still think they are very nice looking cards in spite of it all.
I am just bummed out because they are susposed to be a very high
quality card.

| re 174.11 Mike I don't think it means anything other than the fact
that you have a conversation piece. BTW at the national Pro Set
made a big deal out of the fact that there would be very few promo
cards and at one point dealers were auctioning them off to other
dealers, specifically the Brett Hull. Now it appears that the Hull is
inserted in lieu of the Borque - oops Bourque card - until they can crank
out a few million more corrected collectables. Obvoiusly the Promo
Cards arn't as rare as first believed. I'm sure glad that i didn't
pay megabucks for the Hull Promo.
re 181.11 My note indicated that i saw a collecter trade a Borque -
oops Bourque card for a Case - retail 250.00. I'm not sure what it's
worth. I put mine out on the 17th unmarked and asked for the customers
to quote me thier buy price. I accepted each offer without negotiation
I was paid between 25 and 37.50 for the ones I had. BTW I told all
buyers that i didn't know what it was worth and offered to buy them
back at the same cost.
It won't be long until the Goose is dead at the hands of it's master
and there won't be any golden eggs. Or better yet someone in
Washington will get involved and mess it up even more.

174.24 | "Borque" vs Hull Promo | REFINE::ASHE | Bo knows your girlfriend | Thu Sep 20 1990 17:34 | 7 |
| Anyone know what the relative value of the "Borque" card is compared
to the Hull promo card? I went to a dealer near me who got 1 "Borque"
card and a bunch of Hull cards and my boxes were "Borque"s. If
I went in and said I want 2 Hull cards for a Borque, is that
reasonable? A mistake?

I don't know much about the Hull cards but from what I've heard I'd
say that was a mistake. I've seen the "Borque" errors selling anywhere
from 25 to $50. And I know they can be sold for $25 if you find a
dealer dumb enough;^)
I was at the hollis flea market last week in front of one of the
dealers and a kid walked up looking to trade for a box of hockey cards.
The dealer hadn't recouped what he had put into the cases yet so he
wasn't willing to trade. The kid only had $15 cash, so instead he
bought 5 pack at $1 a pack. In one of the packs he had a Borque error.
He then proceeded across the street to the dealer who was selling them
for the rediculous $50. Sold his card to him for $25, and came back 5
minutes later and bought a full box. I thought that was GREAT!!

174.28 | Look for the silver lining | ASDS::KELLY | | Fri Sep 21 1990 12:36 | 13 |
| My guess is that the error Borque will be wirth more than the Hull for
three reasons: Card #1
Local Guy
It will be corrected.
3 weeks ago it looked like the Hull card would be a great card then
Pro Set began inserting them in packs in lieu of the error Borque.
They also began distributing the Hull to anyone who wrote in for their
football catalogue to redeem their football card inserts. I don't have
any trouble selling my Borques. No I don't want any more. Look for
the wax packs that have the inside silver lining (turn over the flap
and look for a small silver stripe where the wrapper is joined).
These packs have the errors.

Do you mean factory set or complete set in general?
I don't believe that Pro Set came out with a factory set;
however, the distribution in the foil (plastic?) boxes is
so good, you're just as well off buying a box and picking
up the cards you missed elsewhere (at a show, through the
Notes conference, dealer, etc.). My brother & I opened
up 3 boxes recently and came up 24 cards short of three
complete sets!
Of course, you could probably find a set sitting on a shelf
at your local dealer's shop. The Pro Set complete set in
NM condition is currently valued at $22.00.
>>> 3. Any word on when the upper deck hockey set will be out ?
I have heard that this set will not be out until June!!!!
I cannot verify this to be true or not...

dealers in Marlboro selling these boxes for $16.50 each. If you are

Teams career leading scorer set, rookie season subest, and a referee
set... I guess they really had to stretch to make it worth while.
Some traded players and players not in the original set as well.
Didn't look for errors...

| Well, I'll give them some credit.
I bought a box. 300 card set. I got all but 3 cards for my first
set and would of triples on only 3 cards for the box. Still some
errors, 2 of the Canadiens on the back had the same picture, but
at least I don't have to buy 2 boxes for 1 set.

| Haven't gotten through the box yet, but from 600 to 705 only missing
1 (forgot the #). Maybe we could mix and match. Also want a couple
of 507s and 600s for personal reasons.

| Any one out there gotten one of those Stanley Cup holograms? I've seen
one or two at the Super Flea in Buffalo, NY but they weren't for sale.
How legit is that Beckett's price pertaining to this card? I also read
that there is an NHL 75th Anniversary Hologram in the 1991 series.

174.72 | $9.99 at Blg #19 | LUDWIG::POOLE | | Tue Nov 26 1991 01:59 | 7 |
| $9.99 a box for series I and II at Building 19 in Worc. They had about
5 or 6 cases of each on the floor. I bought one of each. Out of the
series II box I was 3 cards short of a complete set and had zero triples.
The series I box was another story, for a couple cards I had 5 copies
and I need about 60 to complete the set.
