182.0. "Has anyone heard of the IMAR...?" by VIDEO::BOURGAULT (Doug Bourgault-235-8032-- A DAB will do ya...!) Thu Nov 21 1991 21:44

	Hello Peoples!!!

I just finished "signing in at ROLL CALL", but I have been
reading/looking at these notes since before it went open access. Sorry for
the delay... Anyways, I just found out that my ETS was extended till 8-DEC-91
and have the option to extending my enlistment... I called the Resv.
Persnl. Ctr. in St. Louis to ask about extending as a IRR. My personal NCO
counselor informed me of an "IMAR"? program. I'm not quite sure that IMAR,
(Indivdiual Mobilization Army Reserve ?)is the lettering but what it is is
that you get attached to a full time regular Army unit, but as a reservist...
All you have to do is a two week tour with that unit once a year... No
weekends. Just a two week "summer" camp type thing. I spent 10 years as a
National Guardsman and enjoyed most of it. One of the MAJOR drawbacks was
that dang weekend drill. It almost always fell on a weekend that you wanted
to be doing anything else but drill. And you had to maintain a military
haircut and other military B.S. all year because you'd be drilling once a
month. But at the same time, some of the best times were spent on that two
week drill somewhere.

My question is has anyone else heard of this program, what does it
*REALLY* entail besides what the "Official Military" INFO is... Or anything
else you might know that could shed some light on this subject. I'm
considering doing my extension this weekend at my local N.G. armory so any
INFO that could be shed upon this ASAP would be nice. Thanks in advance...
