Britain has appointed Lt. Gen. Sir Peter de la Billiere as GOC British forces
in the Arabia region.

Sir Peter served in Korea, and joined the SAS in 1956, serving with distinction 
in the Borneo campaigns.

He led an assault on Jebel Akdar in Oman, and served in the Radfan campaign in 
Aden, and in Borneo.

He was Director of the SAS from 1978 - 1983, during which time he personally
comanded the assault that ended the London Embassy seige.

He was GOC Falklands (essentially military governor).

He is Britain's most decorated general officer, and considered a "politician"
in military circles. He is fluent in Arabic (amongst other langauages).
