142.0. "Any Desert Shield Decies.." by HSOMAI::SKIEST () Mon Jan 07 1991 19:57

    3 questions:

    Have any of Digital employees reserve or guard units been called for
    Desert Shield yet? (Ie; been activated) How many?

    and a comment, may employers in the Houston Texas area have expanded
    their help for the employees in the Gulf. From 3 months difference
    of pay to 6 months. I hope that Digital will assist it's employees
    as others have if must go to war to assist our country.

    I have found 2 members of this conference that have been activated,
    but only one because of Desert Shield. There may be others that
    I missed.

    I have set a keyword ("ACTIVATED") so if you are interested in
    finding those that have said they have orders you can type the
    following command: "DIR/ALL/KEYWORD=ACTIVATED" at the Notes> prompt.

    If anyone knows of other notes referencing activation, please let
    me know and I will set the keyword for those notes.

    I don't know if personnel would let you know numbers of folks
    activated. They likely would NOT give names, but they might give
    numbers if asked.

    Thanks!

    I've heard from a person in payroll that there were about thirty DEC
    employees that were called to active duty for desert shield/storm. In
    my reserve unit, we had three people (myself included) that work for DEC
    and were activated for a year. Its great to be back.

    I was also activated for Panama (on 25 Dec. 89) and spent three days
    flying back and forth.

    My reserve unit is the 337th AS (airlift Squardon) Westover Air Force
    Base, Massachusetts, which I'm a C-5 loadmaster.  Also I work at HLO-2
    (Hudson, Ma.) in the semi-conductor packaging organization.

142.3Activated, but stayed HomestationDECWET::BAKER"Look mommy, up in the sky..."Thu Sep 03 1992 05:3816
    Tom,

    Myself and another guy who works at my site who was in my unit were
    both activated for Desert Storm. We luckily stayed homestation though
    at McChord AFB WA. If McChord had sent another flight of Security
    Police over than we both would have gone 'cause we were on the next
    team.

    In regards to your Panama trip, both myself and the same guy as before
    went to Howard AFB for 97 days during Desert Shield. We called it
    "Just Cause II" because of the attempted coup attempt that happened
    while we were there. Interesting trip though.
