    Hi Dave,

I thank you on behalf of my country and my fellow reservists for the
honour of a note entry of our very own! :)

I will do that soon as I get back from training the week after (I'll be
over at the Far East HQ - Hong Kong).

BTW, have any one of you or your forebears ever served in Singapore
during WWII? Any stories to tell about the terrible POW camps in
Changi, and the infamous Selarang Barracks? Also any old time Royal
Engineers who has been to Gillman Camp?

I don't know about the Royal Engineers, but being Royal Australian
Engineers, I have done some short stints in Singapore and Malaya. I
have lived at NEE Soon Camp, I think that is how it is spelt, and
    Tanglin Barracks.

I have also exercised at Shoalwater Bay, in Queensland, with the
Singapore Armed Forces, which included both your Infantry and Armoured
units. I must get back there one day, as it is now 23 years since I was
    there.

I also had an uncle, fathers side and a sapper to boot who spent time
in Changi. Ex 8 Div I believe. Unfortunately he is dead now.

    Hi Sapper,

Yes, Nee Soon camp is right. My Armour reserve admin is also housed
there, but the actual fighting units are all over the place. Not so
sure which you meant by Tanglin camp. That's in 1967? Wow! I was 5
    years old :)

I've not been to training in Australia, but I've got friends who have.
I'm not too sure about the schedule but in a coupla years' time my
unit may go exercising in Australia. Perhaps I'll see you there! We
have to train all over other people's countries as you know Singapore
    is so pitifully small.

We'll have to swap Engineer tales later...

    Cheerio and Gidday,
