Uniform Info for Navy/Reserves The following recent message authorizes the use of the "wolly-pully" SWO sweater for all hands - male and female. I have further info if anyone is interested. Routine Administrative mesage NAVOP 007/90 Subj: NAVY BLUE PULLOVER SWEATER The navy blue pullover wool sweater, with fabric epaulets, shoulder and elbow patches is approved for wear by all navy personnel. The sweater is an optional uniform item and may be worn with winter blue, winter working blue, summer khaki, working khaki, or dungaree uniforms when authorized by prescribing authority. Phil

One minor nit there ....You must have the leather name tag on it to be legal !!! This was originally only authorized for ware by Surface Warfare designated Chiefs and Officers. It has now been extended to all ranks and all communities of the Navy. Aside from your name only the SW emblem may be on the name tag. (If you rate it) No Sub Service, or AC wings or any other designator may be on it. Bob B

* Aside from your name only the SW emblem may be on the name tag. * (If you rate it) No Sub Service, or AC wings or any other designator * may be on it. Bob, NAVOP 007/90 has been interpreted as "including" insignia such as dolphins as they are a "warfare" type of insignia. We have concluded that you can't use such emblems as Chief's anchors, Command Chief's Badges, or Officer's crest, etc.. It will be interesting to see what the name tags actually say, for names - as some are using nicknames, etc. An additional note, a friend just ordered a sweater from Norfolk, and it had one epaulet shorter than the other, too short for the soft shoulderr board. It also had one sleeve longer than the other. I hope this is a singular occurence... Phil

Phil The poop sheet that was handed down to us stated the outline as I put it. This is probably another one of those interpreted by command discretion deals..OH well there a great sweater but darn expensive.. Bob B |
