65.0. "HELP LOCATING "TIFFIES"" by AIMHI::P_LANDRY () Wed Jan 17 1990 21:07
My last three years of active duty (USN) was at Dam Neck, Virginia
Beach as an instructor for the Polaris Navigation Computer system
called NAVDAC. We were involved in the training for the Royal Navy for
the startup of their equivalent of the Polaris sub program. We trained
the original crew for Faslane as well as some of the "tiffies" going
out on the Repulse, Renoun (sp), and the Dreadnaught. We enjoyed many
on and off duty hours with the Royal Navy staff and students during
their time at Dam Neck.
Over the years I have tried to locate two of the students (computer
types) and have had no luck. Perhaps some of the UK readers may know
these blokes and be able to send me their locations. I don't know what
their actual rates were, it goes back too many years, but their names
are Roger Parrish and Barry Deacon. They were at Dam Neck between
64-67.
Thanks to anyone knowing their whereabouts.
Olde Chief
Phil
