| I think any note, regardless of author, will get a reply if it:
1) is legible
2) has something intelligent to say
3) is offensive and/or sparks a controversy

I completely and vehemently dissagree with your reply Ms. Thibault.
Noters is a clique of people like any other.
Maynard noters answer Maynard issues.
European noters answer/ask european questions.
A not-so-well-known noter can ask a question in a clear concise
way nad be totally avoided, but a well known noter can ask the same
question in an off handed way, and be bombarded.

Monsieur Faulkner
>> Noters is a clique of people like any other.
I agree.
>> Maynard noters answer Maynard issues.
>> European noters answer/ask european questions.
Of course. Naturally people are going to answer questions that
they are knowledgable about (knowledge being questionable in
some cases). If I ask a question about Salem, I would not expect
someone from Maynard to know the answer, or much less care.

Ah yes, and a not-so-well-known noter can ask the same question in
an "off handed" way and also be bombarded.

| I agree with #2. If a noter writes something of general interest
to many people, whomever they are, they'll get a response. I haven't
written much in the notes files yet, but the few notes that I did
write got their share of responses even with me being an unknown.

176.10 | I'm *reading* you | 3D::AUSTIN | | Tue Dec 30 1986 18:54 | 18 |
| Being *VERY* new to the "noters scene", I'm not sure exactly how
you're supposed to become a member of this "clique". In any case,
I haven't really written a note yet (can't really say I have much
to say), however, I do enjoy reading notes. I guess I'm called
a "NRO" - (Notes Reader Only - I know I read that somewhere). In
any case, I would like to be known as a Notes Reader and if and
when I feel that I have something to say, I'll try to figure out
how to add my own note. And when I do add a note, I know that I'll
be really crushed if no-one should reply because I'm not a member
of this "clique". (Is there a clique for NRO's?)
Well, I just wanted you to know that I'm reading you and enjoying
every minute of it. (Maybe I have some voyeristic tendencies...
or maybe I'm afraid of being rejected.)

| There are no cliques - at least not in this conference. If anyone
truly believes otherwise, I think they have a serious problem.

176.13 | "Click, clique" | 3D::AUSTIN | | Wed Dec 31 1986 12:18 | 10 |
| I wasn't saying that the notes conference really *WAS* a clique,
but "Bahama Mama" and Monsieur Faulkner seemed to infer that it
was.
Of course, this is not saying that I don't have a problem, I have
many. But that's another story...."A long time ago, in a land far,
far away...."

176.14 | Maybe I blind but...no small cliques found here | NANOOK::SCOTT | Looking towards the sun | Sun Jan 04 1987 04:56 | 29 |

Jean, and others.
I do feel there is a clique to this and every
conference. But it is an open one here and every other
notes file I've entered into and found I've been accepted.
To me, the cliques I've found myself a part of, are within
the conferences I've written replies to. I've not seen one
person not welcome here with their comments. Perhaps there
are other conferences which are that way but I'm not
interested in most other conferences.
Having only written two notes (though I try to reply to
many others) the first having a very small response and the
second I blew so it became a comedy. The number of
responses to notes do not infer acceptance as a member in
good standing within a small clique. I still feel I was
accepted immediately into HR and unless I'm blind there are
no small cliques here within HR or the other conferences I
attend.
I hope the new comers are not intimidated but that they
do feel they are welcome to join in.
May the sun shine bright for all this new year.

| Are we talking about cliques, or getting to konw a noter? Anyways,
I remember back in September, my life was somewhat of a mess, and
believe me - I was scared!
I though I was alone, but found out differently - All of you out
there in this file not only replied and offered suggestions, but
I really believe that you cared. And you let me know in one way
or another that if I needed any of you - you'd be there.
Thanks to all of you. I probably should have entered this in the
file I am referencing - sorry Steve.
Back to the subject, whether a clique or not, we may not really
know each other, may be some we like and dislike for whatever reason,
but we certainly have become somewhat of a group or family.....etc.
I think that is kind of nice, I turn to you many times for answers,
you may not know it, but....the secret is out.
................................ Okay, enough is enough, see you
around !!
