The other day I put redex through my carboretter(sp?) and I found that I was getting smoke comming out of two of my spark plug ports.It stopped smoking after a while and no problems have occured since.But I just wondered whether anyone could explain why this happens,and whether it should or shouldn't happen. Thanks, Andy...Just a novice but learning..

Andy, all I can think of is that the plugs were not fitting absolutely correctly. Two reasons, a) the hole's threads are buggered (can I say buggered?), b) the sparkies were not tightened up correctly. Before you rush off, be *very* careful when tightening up sparkies, I use a torque-wrench myself. Dave | |||||

Don't tighten when the engine is warm/hot, assuming you want to get them out again ... I never tighten plugs too much. There is a copper washer between the plug and the head, which when you tighten the plug becomes compressed and makes the seal. I can't help feeling that using a torque wrench would lead to over tightening ... not sure what the setting should be, but can believe it would be more than 10-15 ft lbs. | |||||
