153.0. "Calling all MINI fans" by WARDER::COOPERC () Thu May 12 1988 17:52

Would like to know if there is anyone out there who has ever
    tried converting mini engines.

    	5 months ago I bought a 1979 850' mini which is a terrific but
obviousley has a certain lacking in the acceleration stakes.

I am now considering buying a reconditioned 1275GT engine, which
hopefully will add that certain something. However I have little
experience of engines and am looking for advice before I proceed.

Q - Will there be any problems with regard to the body, subsequent
    to the transfer ??

Q - How hard is the actual transfer ??

    Q - Any estimation of cost ??

    Q - Anybody know the performance specs of a 1275 ??

    Q - What's the average condition of a 'reconditioned engine' ??

            	Thanks in anticipation

153.18MINI prices ??????UTROP1::BORRIAS_ITue Mar 06 1990 15:1123
    Hi there MINI fans!

My name is Ilse Borrias, and I work for Digital Holland in Utrecht.
I love MINI's and I'm saving up my money so I can actually buy one!!!
I want to buy a second-hand MINI, probably about 4 or 5 years old,
and preferably a MINI Mayfair! I don't want to buy an oldie or one
    that doesn't look good!
I do know a little bit what a reasonable price is, but I'd like
to hear from other people (who are more or less specialized in
MINI's), what a good price is!
I resume: MINI Mayfair, about 4 or 5(max.) years old
              price????

There's a garage that has a MINI Mayfair from Oct'86, and he askes,
+/- 2,700.- (English Pounds). It has driven 48,000 km.
Is this a good price, or far too much???

    Looking forward to any reply's!
    Bye,

    Ilse Borrias.

	Hi Ilse,

have you tried phoning the ANWB in Den Haag ? They will give you some
idea what is a reasonable price to pay. You don't have to be a member
of the AMWB for this service and they're quite helpful.

	Good luck.

153.20thanks!UTROP1::BORRIAS_IThu Mar 08 1990 14:0015
    Hi Gordon,

    Thanks for the advice!
I didn't phone the ANWB yet, good idea! I thought it was nice
to "put the question" in this note, so maybe other MINI fans
could give me some information !! So you did!!!

Do you own a MINI yourself??
    If yes, what kind of???
(Please don't tell me you own 2 or 3 of them .....!!)

    Cheerio!
    Ilse.

Mini Mayfairs have been available since at least summer 1985, 'cos the garage I
worked at then had one.
Scott.

    Hi,

Mini Mayfairs are available since '83!
That are the light blue metallic versions. The ones from '85
are dark blue metallic. (moonraker blue....that's what it's called).
About the price, yeah, I think about 2,500 Pounds isn't too much
to ask, I didn't call the ANWB yet though!
I just wish I had the money to spend it on such a cute car!

    Cheers,
    Ilse.

The ones from 1988 came in three plain non-metallic colours, red, white
    and blue...

    I've got a red one :-)
153.25UTROP1::BORRIAS_IThu Mar 15 1990 12:5514
    Hi,

Isn't that a "red flame" or something? There are also "jet black's",
or is it a real Mayfair? I can't remember ever seeing a plain red
    mini mayfair, actually...
This saturday I'm going to an Austin/Rover dealer, this week they
    have 3 special Mini's!!!!
Unfortunately I can't buy a new one, but it's always nice to see
    the lovely little ones....

    Ilse. :-(

153.26SHAPES::ALFORDJIce a specialityThu Mar 15 1990 13:429

No it's just plain red and it's a real Mini Mayfair....

The "Flame Red", "Jet Black", "Racing Green" etc are last "car year's"
colours, this year's colours are solid colour on the body with a
    different coloured roof...

BTW I went to the Mini 30th Birthday party in the midlands last year...
I've never seen so many Mini's in my life !!!!!!!!!

We were there, on the Track no less, in the 'Racing' Mini....
	.....which is now....

 For Sale....

It's British Racing Green Body, with a white roof and hub caps.
It's done 6500 miles from new (April 89) and has three years rover
warranty left on it. It's a lovely, cheeky, slightly different mini.

We need four thousand four hundred (ono) for it.

	Phone 782 2156, 0489 882156, or home 0703 784294 or 774963.

Re .28 Think you're both right. The car was referred to as "Red Hot"
and the colour itself as "Flame Red" - I think.

In the context of this notes file, suggest you stick to "Flame Red"
to avoid possible confusion with a certain 23 with pyromaniacal
    tendencies.

(which is still current) is called Flame. (it's the red one with the white

I always tought you were into VES but now i'm wondering are we doing
maintenance on second hand Mini's??? ie FS-MIN01-AA Gearbox for 850

    RE .-1

Ton, I still am in VES, but my true technical love is my
beasty MGB GT, which by the also is British Leyland. (Stands for...)

I suggest to have the MG serviced by a qualified engineer and
reported by FS-MGB71-GT, where 71 stands for year of make.
Monthly charge should be at a decent low level of course.

    Ta,

Further to the last note, here are the instructions :-

                    Announcing the Mini mailing list!
                    ---------------------------------

(Previously known as M.I.N.I but through some technical snafu it
    wouldn't
work right, it's fixed now, fingers crossed!)

A list for fans, disciples and addicts of Sir Alec's Mini. Meep, meep!

    Frequently Asked Questions:

    *What is the mini-list?

It's kind of the Mini World of the Net, except more objective and
    timely but without pretty pictures.

    *What do we talk about?

Repairs, restoration, driving, tyres, racing, sources of parts, reviews
of commercial outlets, quality of brands, diagnosis of problems, Mini
meets, you name it. And we don't restrict discussion, if you feel the
need to slag a supplier for giving you the run-around, let fly. Hey, we
have to deal with those same suppliers too you know!

    *What about advertising?

We don't allow any commercial advertising but you're welcome to post
    any
bit-n-pieces you have an excess of, there's always someone in need of
things. This policy may change, who knows?

*How much traffic can I expect?

Unknown. With about 100 people on the list, 75% of which are lurkers,
you can expect possibly 10 messages on a good day. These things tend to
go in waves too, so you may get very little for a while, then a juicy
    topic comes up....

    *Who's on the list?

Miniacs from all over the world: North America, UK, Australia, Italy,
Netherlands, South Africa.... and growing! Racers, rallyists, restorers
and drivers (and, yes, a few non-Mini owners!).

    *Who started the list?

The Mini list was the brain child of John Bullas in the UK ('el
    presidente
grande: Southern MOC ) and Marcel Chichak (chichm@supernet.ab.ca) in
    Canada
(MINIster of Transport: Edmonton MOC). The list is being run from
Marcel's server for which he is paying hard earned cash to maintain.
    Any
contributions in the form of jelly babies will be gratefully gobbled.
Club newsletters and regalia also accepted at par :-)

*How do I get on the list?

To subscribe, send an email to:	maillist@supernet.ab.ca
in the subject line type: subscribe mini-list
in the first message line type:	subscribe mini-list
    <loginname@netaddress>

*How do I remove myself from the list?

    Send an email to: maillist@supernet.ab.ca
in the first message line type: unsubscribe mini-list
    <loginname@netaddress>
